I have no idea if this is useful at all for you, but osalt.com purports to recommend Linux equivalents to Windows programs. Mayhap it may suggest more options?
I don't know what exactly is up with the borkiness of your Windows 7 key, but there might be a possibility you can use VMWare or VirtualBox or whatever the Linux virtual machine program is to install Windows and vid from there. I have no idea if your computer can handle that or not, but it's a thought.
