In the future I'd like to start moving my better fan art and, if the ToS permits, my more coherent meta over to AO3 and my own website, because I like the interface at AO3 and I like having my fannish endeavours in one place. And tbh, I find Tumblr really awful for actual thought-type things. But in the meantime, that is where I am.

Tumblr is kind of awful for thought, yeah. It makes me kind of sad, because it is the primary location for the fandom I am really involved in right now.

Re that thing about a "comicon" in Australia: trade marks are not usually enforceable internationally like that unless the US comicon can claim they have a real reputation in Australia, which might be difficult.

See, as a layperson who has transcribed an awful lot of trademark cases this year (I just enjoy them!), I think US Comic-Con could easily argue that they have a reputation, and provide evidence that Hub Productions is trading on it -- comments to news articles have people going, "Yes, I've never been able to afford to go to the US!" and Hub Productions themselves run tours to San Diego and other major US cons.

It would be a precedent-setter, but I think it would be an interesting case, especially as the internet increases awareness of niche markets. Provided that Hub don't just fold at the first cease and desist, which would be satisfying but less entertaining for me personally.

As far as I know, AO3 is not really the place for non-fiction meta. I don't know that it actually violates the TOS, but I do know I looked into putting my meta there and I found that it didn't belong. The FAQ refers to works solely as fic, and doesn't even broach the topic of meta. Of course, some people have still chosen to host their meta there. Just, FYI.

Good idea! And just so you know, I followed you on tumblr a second ago - mysweetetc there (and lavinialavender on LJ).

Yes, I've learned not to ever try expressing thoughts with substance on Tumblr. Aside from bitching about politics, because that's pretty safe.
