aberration: Hera from Star Wars Rebels high-fiving Chopper (high five!)

What's amazing to me is how Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter actively contradicted so much about this movie. If Rey's parents loved her and died to protect her, why would she take the name Skywalker and disclaim them? Hell if the point is that what you're born of doesn't determine who you have to be wouldn't it make more sense for her to use the name Palpatine since it doesn't matter? (I honestly get the impression Abrams may have been both trying to do the fan-appeasing Rey-must-have-a-magic-bloodline while simultaneously genuinely trying to continue from TLJ's 'bloodlines don't matter' and either didn't really get TLJ or couldn't reconcile these two for obvious reasons).

And okay, I do think the movie is intrinsically bad and that this plot overall was stupid, but I also feel like the whole 'I have all the Jedi' moment would have actually been more meaningful if Rey had no magic bloodline. Her having one certainly lends nothing to it, so why have it at all? It's so completely baffling other than being a product of corporate cowardice.
