Stupid Avatar fandom gripe of the day
Seen in a variety of places: ”Legend of Korra looks great, but it looks like she’s the only tough female character in the series.”
For “tough” you could also read “strong”, “powerful”, etc.
Okay, so, (1): Chief Bei Fong. We don’t know much about her, but I figure you don’t get to be a high ranking police officer with sexy intriguing facial scars without being a tough cookie.
(2): We also have Pema, Tenzin’s wife, and their two daughters, Jinora and Ikki. So far all we know about Pema is that she has three kids and is pregnant with a fourth, and is a non-bender.
(2a): Suggesting that, as a mother and possibly a traditionally feminine character, Pema doesn’t count as a powerful female character, is pretty much an insta-fail for me.
(2b): Suggesting that, as children, Jinora and Ikki cannot be powerful, strong or interesting characters is another one.
(3): Not every character has been announced or described yet. The first casting announcement included Seychelle Gabriel, whose character wasn’t mentioned at Comic-Con this year. It might just be a recurring role, but hey, so were Azula, Mai and Ty Lee.
In conclusion, it’s way too early to be complaining.

Also, there's already tension between Korra/Mako and Korra/Bolin shippers. AND YET NO ONE IS DOING KORRA/BEI FONG. *so oppressed*
