Doctor Who: A Town Called Mercy

Once again, I liked this a lot, but don't have much to say about it.

Sure sign that Amy is almost ready to leave: she's out-Doctoring the Doctor. This makes me happy, because it echoes my very favourite companion departure, Romana in season 18! Only, luckily, season 7 doesn't have entropy, break-ups or Adric.

So that's good, and whatever rumours and marketing says, it doesn't point to Amy being killed off. (I wouldn't be so upset if Rory died, because he'd be back in the anniversary special anyway.)

I gotta say this - I deeply appreciated that Amy was *terrible* with that gun. It broke the three big cliches of TV:

1) All Americans come out guns blazing at every opportunity. (Although plenty of guns were waved, no American character actually fired a single shot.)

2) Anyone who pulls a gun automatically knows how to use it with complete accuracy.

3) Guns never, ever go off by accident//people can't fire unintentially.

It's a kids show, so Amy wasn't allowed to actually shoot anyone in the foot (or anywhere else), but yeah. They aren't toys and they aren't props and you have to learn how to use them safely.

Actually, I have to take that back, slightly. One American character fired one warning shot.

Stetsons really have targets on them in the Whoniverse!

I CHEERED. Both cause she pulled the gun and was terrible at it, as is right since she'd most probably never touched one before in her life.

There was that time with the machine gun. But that was in another life where Churchill and pterodactyls coexisted, so not so much. :P

You don't really have to *aim* a machine gun, just point it in a general direction. Revolvers are more finicky.

Back in the anniversary special? I thought they said Amy and Rory would not be coming back at all once they left. Karen and Arthur keep saying they're leaving for good, don't they?
