Doctor Who: "The Girl Who Waited"

SHOW! AFTER LAST WEEK'S WORLD OF DULL, YOU ARE BACK WITH ME!

THINGS I LOVE SO MUCH I HAVE TO LIST THEM IN CAPSLOCK:

- TIMEY WIMEY SHENANIGANS
- GIRLS WHO GROW UP TO BE SEVERE, UBER-COMPETENT OLDER LADIES
- ARMOUR AND KATANAS
- SLOW-MO ROBOT BATTLES
- SELF-SACRIFICE AND IMPOSSIBLE CHOICES
- AMY POND

I also like Rory quite a lot!  As in, he is a nice character and I enjoy watching him and I can see why Amy loves him so much, and his love for Amy makes my heart wibble a bit, although not in a shippery way because that seems redundant when there's so much on the screen.  And the Doctor being a bit faily and a bit manipulative, and trying to do the right thing and no one really knowing if he succeeded.

IN SHORT, THIS EPISODE.  ALL THE LOVE.  ALL THE TEARS.

I quibble with a couple of early points: I expected Amy's phone to have some relevance to the plot, and I was kind of WHUT? at Amy choosing the bottom red button instead of the top green button.  I dunno, that seemed an unlikely choice to me.  BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WAS GREAT.  Even though I'm really, really sad that future!Amy's memories weren't integrated into present!Amy's, so she'd be like Rory with the memory of a lifetime of waiting in her head.  BUT I CAN LIVE WITH IT.

I loved how older!Amy was still flirty and sexy, but also her body language was different, and at first she doesn't even make eye contact with Rory, like she's forgotten how to do it.  Anyone who says Karen Gillan can't act after this ... I don't know, but they'd be wrong.

Also, how pretty and viddable was this?  I need to think of a song.  And then move to a planet with a 30-hour day so I have time to make a vid in addition to all the other things I've got going on.

Yes! I would have loved to see this.

Agreed that would have been cool. If the setup had been a virtual reality rather than a different timestream, it would have been possible, but would have rendered the episode rather pointless.

There are a lot of things that are blatantly only there for the plot to work. The Doctor says "Don't let them give you anything" - obviously she guesses that he means medicine, not food - but then an anaesthetic is OK. They're a famous tourist destination, and Interface knows she's from off-world, but the robots won't believe her - bad programming there! But yeah, timy wimy fun and serious acting, and I hoped we'd get the time-streams merging with confusingly contradictory memories. I've yet to watch Confidential; maybe we'll see some more of the "garden" scenery, which was pretty.

THIS. Srsly, they've visited how many planets now and she presses the ~RED BUTTON~ without even trying to clarify?

And so, so much this.

Also everything else you said too. Aaaaah. ;;

The moment where she went to put on the lipstick and then stopped? BROKE ME.
