Who that is New! Let's kill Hitler!
Contrary to my usual practice of watching for the first time IN HALLOWED SOLITUDE, I watched LKH with

Not because I didn't like it! I totally enjoyed "Let's Kill Hiter". It made me laugh, wibble, mash faces together to make them kiss in my mind, etc. I was a bit eyerolly at some parts, but "Oh, Moff, do try to be less sexist sometimes" is not exactly flames on the side of my face.
But apparently lots of people did hate it, and I don't want to make a post if they're just going to come into my LJ and tell me about it. So let me pre-emptively say, "Cool story, bro!" and be done with it.
SO, YES, BITS I LIKED:
- M E L S!!! I knew she was introduced as a childhood friend of Amy and Rory, and that her name indicated to some speculators that she was going to turn out to be River. And I was like, "Pssh, no way" and instead believed the rumour that she was the next companion. But no, she was River. Technically, River II, with the child in the space suit as River I and Alex Kingston as River III. NIFTY.
- Now, next time someone tries to say something about there being no black Time Lords, we can show them a gif of Mels, and then Rory punching Hitler in the face.
- I hope next we find out that Mel Bush is also River Song.
- I was kind of afraid we were going to get Yet More Blathering About How You Can't Change The Past, and also something kind of trite about Nazis being bad. Instead, we had Rory punching Hitler and River sending a room full of Nazis running into the street in their underwear. So that's nice.
- Also: "I was just on my way to a gay Gypsy Bah Mitzvah for the disabled when I thought, hey, the Third Reich's a bit rubbish, isn't it?"
- Actually, on a proper analytical note, I thought that both the woman playing Mels and Kingston at certain moments were laying it on a bit thick.
- HOW IS AMY POND SO LOVELY?
- RORY! His sort of surprise at himself when he does something alpha mannish is endearing.
- UNEXPECTED ROSE. AND MARTHA. AND DONNA. And the Doctor feels shame and guilt regarding all of them. AS HE SHOULD.
- I often feel bad for Eleventy, that he tries so hard to be a good peson, and yet keeps having to pay for Ten's crimes.
- I feel worse for River, being stuck with Ten when she dies.
- The Department of Justice people were kind of boring and irritating, but I liked how it was essentially a Starfleet vessel that is shaped like a human.
- I was kind of eye-rolly at the "aiming for a dress size" and joke about River's changing weight and wardrobe, but on the other hand, the Doctor's current first preoccupation on regeneration is his hair colour, and in River's shoes I would be mostly concerned with my bra size. Also, running off to weigh herself was the pretext for applying the poison lipstick. CLEVER.
- I feel like I really need to write more River 'n' Azula now.
In short, those were my FEELINGS.
In other news, the swelling on my ankle has finally started to go down a little. I'm going back to work tomorrow, which is a bit of a terrifying thought. I'm seriously wondering how feasible it is to get off the train, then take a tram for the single block that takes me uphill. But then I'll have a downhill walk for most of a block to get to the office. Damn.
And I cracked the 10,000 word minimum on my Avatar Big Bang yesterday. Only it's a stupid minimum and I think I'm only about halfway through the story. And oh look, rough drafts are due on August 31. Fortunately they accept detailed outlines, and then you have another two months to finish the thing.

... only I'm probably too lazy to walk up from King, and my lunchtime doesn't coincide with yours.

But seriously, don't worry about it. I have leftovers from my dinner. (But thank you.)
