It turns out that it's a bad idea to watch one episode of The Middleman for every two of Babylon 5. You start ... thinking. Like about how Ivanova is deadpan and cranky, and Sheridan is a boy scout with a fruit fetish, and together they should fight crime evil so you don't have to.

Admit it, you know it makes sense. Well, more sense than my last great idea, which involved the people of Babylon 5 teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. SHUT UP, THAT IS A BRILLIANT IDEA, EVEN THOUGH IT MAKES NO SENSE. Londo would be all, "The first rule is, don't make deals with the forces of darkness." And Snape would nod wisely. And then there would be manly bonding over drinks.

Sheridan's class would be more like, "Usually when my life is on the line, I just wait for my girlfriend to show up and bail me out." At which Harry goes, "THAT'S TOTALLY MY PLAN AS WELL!" and they share the Fistbump of Semi-competent White Male Bonding. Which prompts Ron to realise that Hermione is absent, which isn't like her, and then we realise that she's out with Delenn, Ginny and Ivanova, rounding up horcruxes.

There, I've just saved myself all the trouble of writing it! Win!

Also, I finished re-watching season two last night. Actually, I skipped some episodes, which I'm starting to think was a mistake, and not just from a completist's point of view. This time around, I was sufficiently immune to the REALLY OBVIOUS BLUESCREEN OF OBVIOUSNESS to actually pay attention to Kosh's Floaty Glowy Tinkerbell Jesus Fairy Doctor routine. Which ... well, it sounds good in theory, but in practice I just start having post-traumatic flashbacks to "Last of the Time Lords".

Not that I'm really one to judge, because my favourite episode of the season is "Comes the Inquisitor", which is summarised in my head as "OTP gets tortured by [SPOILER]. Other shippers wish they had it this good." Not that it's not a good episode on its own, I just think my shipper goggles make me a bit shortsighted. IT'S EMBARRASSING TO HAVE A CANON SHIP AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF DISMISSING SUCH THINGS, DAMMIT!

Anyway, the nifty thing about "Inquisitor" is that it's a total torturefest that doesn't become sexually exploitative. Which is probably ... wrong, given who Sebastian turns out to be, but Vorlons probably frown on that sort of thing. Anyway, I enjoy watching my favourite characters suffer, and I like being able to do so without the mental distancing that comes when you have to say, "That's really awesome and interesting for the character and all, but I'm kind of afraid viewers are meant to be getting off on it, and I resent that the creators have put us in this situation".

IN OTHER NEWS! ...Wow, there's a lot of capslock here, isn't there? In other news, I have a conundrum: should I buy more extra icon spaces for my LJ, or get a paid Dreamwidth account? I honestly can't decide.
