lizbee: (Star Trek: Lorca)
Title: the meteors these days are the size of corpses
Fandom: Star Trek: Discovery
Wordcount: 47,380
Rating: adult
Characters: Gabriel Lorca, Katrina Cornwell, L'Rell, misc ensemble
Pairing(s): Gabriel Lorca/Katrina Cornwell

Warning(s): I used "chooses not to warn" on AO3, because I feel like it's always more complicated than straight up rape/non-con where the mirrorverse is involved. Suffice to say, there are allusions to outright assault, and questions arise as to whether consent can be meaningful in some circumstances. Also a lot of people die, on page and off, and there's torture and slavery and problematic elements all over the place. Your fave is problematic: the mirror universe. But you probably knew that, right?

Notes: Originally posted to AO3 in 2018, so before season 2 of Discovery had dropped.

I meant it when I said slow burn, sorry. I think the shipping starts in earnest around maybe chapter 6? (I swear, I started this thinking it'd be an easy 5,000 words. 10,000 at most.) Vaguely compliant with Drastic Measures, but there's no need to have read it.

The Terran medical division uniforms being red instead of white is from an interview with Gersha Phillips, which honestly just put a mental image in my head that left me needing to write this; interrogators being part of medical is my own conceit, but whatever, it makes sense. Sort of. Just work with me here and remember this was a few years before "Terra Firma".

Title is from "There's a War Going on for your Mind" by the Flobots, because for some reason this fandom lends itself to long, pretentious titles. Beta'd by NonElvis, who it turns out was writing more or less the same plot but with different characters. We're friends because we're into the same things, right?

Summary: Trapped in the mirror universe, Gabriel Lorca makes a deal with the devil: if he works for Inquisitor Cornwell, she will find him a way home. The question is, what will he become in the meantime?

Gonna post a chapter a day so as not to overwhelm you. Also there are sequels. Sorry. Not sorry. )
lizbee: (Star Trek: Laris (morning))
Fandom: Star Trek: Picard
Rating: all-ages
Characters: Laris, Zhaban
Pairing(s): Laris/Zhaban
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 in March 2020. The AO3 notes were, "So it turns out that a good way to get out of a COVID-19 anxiety spiral is to write fic. (But not your novel, and definitely not working on anything related to your actual job.) As threatened/promised, another Dessa title. The timeline is possibly unlikely; I just like the idea of Laris and Zhaban being much older than they appear."

Summary: Earthers sometimes ask how Laris and Zhaban met. They construct charming stories and never tell the same one twice, and only a handful of people know the truth.

Nothing spurs you on to get your fic backed up like a DDoS attack on AO3! )
lizbee: (Star Trek: Lorca creepin')
Rating: all-ages
Warnings: Mild body horror; I'm still pretty mad about how season 2 ended, if you were wondering
Relationships: Katrina Cornwell/the version of Prime Gabriel Lorca that exists primarily in my head
Characters: Katrina Cornwell, Gabriel Lorca, Ash Tyler, Elizabeth Dehner, Christopher Pike
Notes: Sequel to "Clarified by Fire"; AO3 freeform tags included "section 31", "post Mirror Universe trauma" and "canon-noncompliant degree of mental healthcare"

Summary: He's back in his own universe, but 'home' isn't what it used to be.

The AO3 notes also included the words 'I AM BACK ON MY BULLSHIT', and I think we can just take that as read going forward )
lizbee: (Star Trek: Lorca and Cornwell)
Fandom: Star Trek: Discovery
Rating: All ages
Characters: Katrina Cornwell, Gabriel Lorca
Pairing(s): Katrina Cornwell/Gabriel Lorca
Notes: Written for Katoberfest 2022

Summary: They used to be rivals; now they're friends. Could they be ... more? Cadet Lorca gives Cadet Cornwell a tour of his home town. Day 6 of Katoberfest 2022: Rom-Com.

This was going to be part of a 5 Things fic, but my brain was approximately 85% mashed potato. )
lizbee: (Star Trek: Picard/Beverly)
Fandom: Star Trek: Picard
Rating: all-ages
Characters: Beverly Crusher, Jack Crusher (the younger), Zhaban
Pairing(s): Picard/Crusher
Notes: "Oh no, Beverly, London is far too close to France," I said to the TV, "and also we don't need an explanation for why Picard's secret kid as an inexplicable British accent, it was a mistake to let reply guys write television." Anyway, this definitely happened; the only question is whether he told Laris, and my opinion varies depending on what I find funnier at any given moment.

Summary: Zhaban never forgets a face. And today he is recognising a person he has never met.

The admiral kept her picture on his desk, and only mentioned her when it was late at night and the wine had flown too freely. Yet here she was. In London. Practically on the admiral's doorstep. And also two tables away from Zhaban, eating fish and chips off a replicated facsimile of a newspaper in a centuries-old food market near the river. )
lizbee: (Star Trek: Laris (looking up))
Fandom: Star Trek: Picard
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Spoilers through "The End is the Beginning" and a set which appears in "Absolute Candor"
Relationships: Laris/Zhaban
Notes: With thanks to [personal profile] nonelvis and [personal profile] aristofranes for beta-reading and handholding.

Summary: Earth is no longer safe; maybe it never was. Still, Laris feels the loss.

Turns out it's quite hard to excerpt from this fic without spoiling the series... )
lizbee: (Star Trek: Kat looking up (close up))
Rating: all-ages
Warnings: Mild body horror; I'm still pretty mad about how season 2 ended, if you were wondering
Relationships: Truthfully there is too much het to call this gen, but not enough shipping to call it het
Characters: Katrina Cornwell, Christopher Pike, Ash Tyler, glimpses of L'Rell
Notes: Good news, I haven't entirely forgotten how to write fic. Bad news, titles are still really hard; this one is from "Good Grief" by Dessa, because when in doubt, turn to Genius.com. Many thanks to Lion Owl for her beta and Aristofranes for reassuring me that the emotional beats worked.

Summary: Kat has been waiting for her chance to confront Chris Pike.

You're just two people amidst hundreds exploring the markets of Pacifica's southern beach on a cool night. )
lizbee: Illustration of a goose looking at a sign forbidding geese. The goose cares not for your puny laws. (Games: Goose)
Title: To Boldly Honk
Fandom: Untitled Goose Game, Star Trek: Discovery
Rating: all-ages
Characters: Gabriel Lorca, Terral, Katrina Cornwell, a horrible goose
Warning(s): (highlight to reveal) Birbs. Implied goose-typical violence.
Prompt(s): allofthefeelings pointed out that there was no Untitled Goose Game fic on AO3, and we'd have to give our Hugo back if that shameful situation was allowed to persist.
Notes: Originally posted on Tumblr. This version has undergone mild revision to remove the mid-paragraph tense changes.

Summary: Gabriel Lorca meets a goose.

Why was there a goose in a restricted section of a starbase? Why was there a goose on a starbase at all?  )

Summary: Nima confronts her mother in Zaofu.

Notes: Remember that time I wrote an AU series where Lin Beifong's life was completely different? Here's "Old Wounds", the President Beifong AU version (sort of).

Written in 2017, but never posted because I had this idea in my head that it was unspeakably bad. (It's not. It's fine. And so is the unfinished "unreadable" draft linked in the endnotes. For some reason I wrote this fic three or four times? Bad sign, I think, as I consider rewriting my current WiP a few more times.)

Nima did not care for Zaofu. )

Summary: Seven months since the war ended, and Kat's using work to keep grief and her bruised conscience at bay -- until Starfleet Security spots a familiar face in the alien underworld: her own. What has brought Inquisitor Cornwell of the Terran Empire to the Federation? Kat will burn the whole Empire down to get her answer.

So this was my 2018. More or less -- started writing in February, finished the major work on "welcome every trespass" a couple of months ago, made a final tweak this morning. My biggest completed writing project by a long shot, and I'm pretty happy with it.

I have just one more story to add, but I'm not going to write it until early January, on account of various things: work is busy, I'm trying to write an original middle grade novel, and I'm launching a podcast soon.

The Weight of Your Bones (2028 words) by LizBee
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Star Trek: Discovery
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Michael Burnham/Katrina Cornwell
Characters: Katrina Cornwell, Michael Burnham

Summary: This is a terrible idea, Kat is thinking, but it's a long way from the worst one she's had lately. Michael and Katrina, after the war.

I wasn't even remotely stealthy in this allegedly anonymous exchange -- I think at one point, I used the exact same phrasing in the fic and in a conversation with my recipient, [personal profile] nenya_kanadka. [personal profile] nonelvis left a comment saying, "I love the way you write Kat" ... a week before reveals.

(I also did all the match-ups for the swap -- but don't think I made it easy for myself! I had put [personal profile] nenya_kanadka in a mental box marked Lorca/Cornwell shippers, and was going to write "undercover fake marriage" fic -- only to realise she isn't a Lorca fan, and only cares about the pairing inasmuch as it relates to Kat. Luckily, canon gave us Michael visiting Kat in the middle of the night, spawning a brand new f/f pairing in less than thirty seconds.)

Still on matters Trekkish, over on my blog, I revisit the TNG episode "The Drumhead" and conclude that, while it's still a powerful episode, and depressingly relevant in 2018, there's a lot of sexism in how it handles Norah Satie, and also I do not believe Starfleet is applying best practices to its internal investigations department.

(Apparently my new hobby is Defending The Female Admirals We're Meant To Hate; I guess next up is Alynna Necheyev, if I can stomach another viewing of "Journey's End".)

Author: LizBee
Fandom: Star Trek: Discovery
Wordcount: 3,700 words
Rating: Teen
Characters: Gabriel Lorca, Katrina Cornwell, Michael Burnham
Pairing(s): Gabriel Lorca/Katrina Cornwell; Gabriel Lorca/Michael Burnham
Warning(s): (highlight to reveal) Includes the aftermath of mirror!Lorca's extremely problematic everything, ie, rape by deception, seduction of a surrogate daughter.
Notes: Contains spoilers for "Vaulting Ambition" and pure speculation thereafter. And also polyamory and a dog. Grew from conversations with the artist occasionally known as sohotrightnow and poppaeasabina (who named the dog).
Summary: Gabriel Lorca has a house by the sea and a dog, but Starfleet has one more mission for him.

Most mornings, Gabriel was awake well before the sun rose, sitting on the front steps with the dog's head on his knee... )
lizbee: A sketch of myself (Star Trek: Cornwell (standing))
Fandom:Star Trek: Discovery
Rating: Teen
Relationships: Katrina Cornwell/Gabriel Lorca
Characters: Katrina Cornwell, Gabriel Lorca, various and assorted OCs, Christopher Pike, Sarek, Spock
Warnings (highlight to read): Minor sexual assault in the form of a non-consensual kiss. Also allusions to ableist attitudes.
Notes: Sequel to "Mother-in-Law's Tongue", but reading that is completely optional. This was going to be a nice, short set of scenelets, but ... grew. A lot. It is 100% going to be completely chucked out of canon in just a few days, I'm sure. Quick note on the ending, highlight to read: If what you need is a fic that ends happily for the Cornwell/Lorca ship, this is maybe not the story for you. Title from "Holy Moses" by Washington. Please do not look too closely at the space medicine, the space mental health care or the space physics. Do feel free to picture Rob Collins as Dr Winters, because I think he'd look ace in one of those white and silver medical uniforms.

Summary

Warning(s): Violence, amputations, blood, the eyeball thing.
Notes: And. We. Are. Done! Thanks (again) to [personal profile] nonelvis, who deserves a lot of gin after this.
AO3 tags I decided not to use: Philippa Georgiou brings a bat'leth to a phaser fight

Notes: The third and final part is just about done, except for the epilogue, so go Team Writing Stuff. (Apologies to my NaNo plans.) Extra thanks to [personal profile] nonelvis, who went so far as to research Klingon grammar because she is the best.
AO3 tags I decided not to use: humansplaining; Philippa Georgiou has a metal arm.

Characters: Katrina Cornwell (DIS); Chang (ST:VI); various and assorted others.
Pairing(s): Cornwell/Lorca (minor)

Warning(s): For this part? Violence, allusions to torture. For the fic as a whole? All that plus brainwashing, and did I mention the violence? Also this may not be the fic for you if you have an eyeball squick. On the upside: no sexual violence.
Notes: Written in a week and a bit, in a desperate race against canon. Posting as a WiP because I've only got a few scenes to write and I just wanna get in before terrible things happen (I assume) in the next episode. Title paraphrasing Bjork's "Bachelorette" because the alternative was "The Winter of Our Disco Tent" -- thanks for that suggestion, Cactus Frand. A thousand thanks to [personal profile] nonelvis who took time to beta even though she is very, very busy, and to Tansy for the non-graphic, non-sexual torture suggestion.
AO3 tags I decided not to use: winter soldier AUs are always appropriate; Shakespeare in the original Klingon.

Summary: Korra asks the United Republic to intervene in the Water Tribe civil war. The answer is complicated.
Notes: The President Beifong AU hits the actual presidential stuff, and also canon; this is the AU take on scenes in "Peacekeepers", with extrapolations from the "North & South" graphic novel.

Korra didn't need Varrick's help to get a meeting with the president, but he insisted on accompanying her to City Hall anyway. )
