Part of the reason I love Zuko's story, aside from all the bits where it's hilarious and pathetic and hilariously pathetic, is because it's basically about a child learning he can walk away from his abusive father. The scenes in "The Avatar State" where he's so desperate to believe that his father and sister love and value him, and his dad is TOTALLY FOR REALS SORRY about that time he set Zuko's face on fire to teach him a lesson. And he's so cruel to his uncle after Iroh points out that these people are not actually as loving and forgiving as Zuko hopes, represent a really familiar sort of situation, and one that you wouldn't expect to be so well handled in an animated kids series.

I mean, I did keep expecting Rose Tyler to turn up and go, "You should talk to him! He's your dad! He needs you!" (NO I WILL NEVER STOP BEING BITTER ABOUT THAT SCENE!), but that didn't happen. So, win.
