I have to say, the right ankle sprain is turning out not so bad.  On Tuesday, I was in a lot of pain, enough that I was on the verge of calling around to see if someone could take me to the hospital.  Instead, I had a nap (shut up, it's a totally appropriate response!), and that nap must have been magic, because when I woke up, the pain and the swelling had diminished.

I still went to the doctor that evening, and he was not entirely sure it wasn't broken (apparently ankles can fracture without much swelling or bruising?  Well that's a fact my inner hypochondriac has stored away for future worry!) so he went me for X-rays.  They all came back normal, so now I just have to ... do that thing where I wait for it to get better.

So now I can limp quite handily, and don't do that thing where I go to stand up, but freeze for ages as I work up the guts to put weight on it.  Now I'm all, I'M WALKING, IT AIN'T NO THANG!  Because my feet like to screw with me, my left ankle is very sore today, but I think it's annoyed at having to bear all my weight.

Today, because I'm going a bit stir crazy, I'm accompanying the flatmates to the newly-opened Top Shop.  I predict there'll be maybe half an hour of walking, and then I'm going to hole up in Villa and Hut with a book and a pomegranate chai.  But at least I'll be somewhere different!

I'm glad the ankle's healing!

The fracture thing was annoying. Once, when I was in the Peace Corps, I sprained my ankle and I had to book a flight to the capital to verify it wasn't a fracture. Rather hilariously, the doctor there felt it a bit and declared it a sprain without booking me for an x-ray or anything. (Lucky for me, I have crutches at all times, so I could hop around on one foot everywhere until it healed.)

Yeah, I was all "Do I have to? Can't I just take some tylenol and hop around everywhere until it feels better?" And they were all "No, you need an x-ray!" So I had to fly off and stay for most of a week before I got a flight back, and the doctor didn't even do the x-ray, just told me to take some tylenol and not put too much strain on my feet.

Crutches are fun! Get the forearm kind and you can bounce around like a cricket. The armpit ones just look horrible.

Ah, that would be different then. I've always had the forearm ones, and I don't know if you can have any fun with the armpit ones.

I'm glad you're doing better! That photo of your ankle you posted to Twitter was pretty scary.

It's good to hear you're doing better! I saw your "anklecam" pic on Twitter, and the swelling did look rather impressive. In a potentially very painful way.

I'm glad your ankle's better - it's a real pain.

Lots of people I know have damaged their ankles recently. I'm starting to wonder if there's an epidemic.
