I decided to track my reading this year, just to see, you know, numbers and patterns and stuff.
January is pretty inflated, since I was on holiday and confined to the house with a sprained ankle. And a lot of these are re-reads, YA and middle grade, plus one graphic novel.
ALSO, Among Friends is every bit as amazing as it was when I was 13, and I was in tears by the end, so well done, Caroline B. Cooney.

Date: 2012-02-01 02:03 am (UTC)I know a lot of people have had problems with the dialogue (I myself decided that it was like one of those annoying works of historical fiction that tries to put thoughts and dialogue in the mouths of real figures, so the actual records were more like, "In the early days of their relationship, Avatar Aang and Master Katara addressed each other by affectionate petnames, much to the chagrin of their friends"), and other people had problems with the plot, and apparently a lot of Kataangers really hate Gene Yang because he wanted to introduce friction into their relationship.
NONE OF THAT MATTERED TO ME. I found the plot interesting and logical, and Zuko's dilemma is compelling, and I'm kind of a bit amused at the people going, HOW DARE HE TAKE A STAND IN FAVOUR OF COLONIALISM? because what do they expect from a privileged member of a colonialist society? And the stuff with Ozai was GREAT.
