Someone suggested that all the flashbacks we’re seeing to Yakone’s trial are in fact where Sokka and Toph died. I AM NEEDLESSLY DISTRESSED BY THIS. THEY CAN’T DIE EVER THEY’RE NOT ALLOWED.

Me:

I'VE BEEN WORRIED ABOUT THE SAME THING. Well, at first I was just worried about Toph, because we don't have an age for her death, but she's referred to in the past tense, and Lin does seem to get a bit conflicted when she's mentioned. AND THEN I THOUGHT OF SOKKA AND NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Weaves:

RIGHT? And given that the statue of Toph we have seen looks to be very much like the flashback-Toph, I don't feel it would be unreasonable to assume it's a post-mortem thing.

AND THEN I THINK OF SOKKA AND NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, BASICALLY.

AND LIN WOULD ONLY HAVE BEEN ABOUT SEVEN. No wonder she became a cop, and no wonder she's a bit ... singleminded about the defence of the city.

If Tarrlok is Yakone's son, and Yakone killed Sokka and Toph, that might explain why (a) Tenzin seems to have a really personal dislike for him, and (b) why Tenzin always seems kind of surprised when Lin is on his side.

Weaves:

MOUNTAINS OF ANGST FIC I might even commit some of it myself. I HAVE LIKE SIRIUS-LEVEL DENIAL OF SOKKA DYING. HE'S NOT ALLOWED. HE'S GOING TO BE A HAPPY GRANDPA SOMEWHERE. THAT IS THE WAY IT WILL BE. WAS. THING.

But also, if Aang is trying to speak to Korra and can only do it in flashbacks, it makes a lot of sense that it would be a highly emotional memory he chose.

And we already know he tends to Avatar-State-out when his friends are threatened.

YOUR IDEA MAKES SENSE. Because I have been wondering why Yakone is so serious that Aang's going all Avatar State and possibly taking his bending, if he's just a thug.

*wibbles*It is HORRIBLY SENSIBLE. I hope we get an explanation, like, THIS WEEK. Or better yet, NOW. Stupid Nick, finally closing up the holes in their security.

If Toph dies, I'm obligated to write ALL the angsty Tophzula fic.

I mean, it would be narratively satisfying for Korra to have to complete something Aang began, right?

Of course, the other theory going around was that Yakone was Lin's father.

Gotta say, though, now I kind of do want some kind of AU-Tenzin-and-Lin-never-broke-up-and-now-the-Avatar-is-living-with-them fic.

It makes me sad there's no Lin/Tenzin/Pema. The Lin fans seem to hate Pema, and vice versa.

EXACTLY! They are both great, and there is plenty of Tenzin to go around, and FANDOM IS OPPRESSING ME.
