I wasn't going to get excited about the Pond Life shorts, because I figured they'd be region-locked, and by the time I got ahold of one I'd be completely spoiled, and I don't actually enjoy watching things on YouTube.

HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT REGION-LOCKED! And the first one, at least, is delightful.

My thoughts:

1. I wonder if the reason for the decline in fics like missing scenes is that the series provides those, too, now.

2. DOCTOR/MATA HARI, YES.

2a. I feel like, okay, Chibnall, you're trying to be a bit Moffat-y there. But I like Chibnall a lot better when he's trying to mimic the Moff instead of RTD. YES, THERE IS A STRONG ELEMENT OF PERSONAL PREFERENCE THERE, SO SUE ME.

3. There are gifs of the Doctor deejaying, right? RIGHT?

4. Daytime drinking, Ponds?

Behold, an actual miracle! Chris Chibnall wrote Doctor Who and it was awesome! Granted, it was only thirty seconds long, but still ...

This is indeed totally adorable, and good on the BBC for not region locking it. Doctor/Mata Hari FTW.

(Mind you, what I've always really wanted is a story where the Doctor meets Nancy Wake. For Nazi-fighting purposes, not sexytimes.)

Total DW ignoramus, but I can recommend Tunnelbear to combat pointless region locking. Been trying it out for a few weeks, it works like a charm (save for one outage a few days ago).

I still can't quite believe they went there with the toasting fork, but I was amused as hell. (Yeah, they'd already done this in LKH, but it was a lot subtler there. This was definitely not subtle.)

Thank you. Everyone else on my flist is whining about heteronormativity. It was 54 seconds of moderately enjoyable silliness, which is far, far better than we've come to expect from Chibnall. I was pleased.

You will enjoy next Saturday. SO MUCH.

Thank you for letting me know it wasn't region locked.

And suddenly I'm excited for the new season. In my head the Ponds just crack open a bottle whenever they come home to messages on the machine. Everyone else uses their cell phones.

Is it okay that I rather love the idea of the Doctor leaving them long rambling messages? It's adorable.

I saw it and had to rewind immediately, because I couldn't quite believe what I'd seen. In fact, I still can't quite believe it made it into the final cut.

Hard to mess up 30 seconds, really.

I'd have thought if anyone could manage it, it would be Chibnall. And yet! Sontarans! Surfing! Mata Hari! DJing!

(And I agree about Nancy Wake, but she would deserve a whole two-parter.)

She would!
