There should be an ALL SHERLOCK HOLMES ADAPTATIONS EVER vid to the techno cover of "I've Been to a Marvellous Party". Mostly for the "Then Frieda arrived with a turtle" line.

(My definition of "ALL SHERLOCK HOLMES ADAPTATIONS EVER would include Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation and that bit in Avatar: the Last Airbender where Sokka has a hat and a bubble pipe.)

(Oh, and SHINee's video for "Sherlock". Especially the bit where Taemin wears a travelling cloak with skinny jeans. SHUT UP, IT'S AMAZING.)

The problem is that I can't stand Jeremy Brett's face*, so someone else is going to have to do it.

* Yes, heresy, I know.

Next time I have a day off, someone remind me to scan the Japanese Sherlock Holmes magazine I bought in Tokyo. I don't read a word of Japanese can only read the kanji for "soy", but the illustrations are amazing. There's a small number of Instagram pictures here.

I am brimming with sympathy. While I know that Chris Pine looks a lot like William Shatner, I'm quite fond of Shatner's ridiculous face but Pine looks like a nasty ratty fellow and he makes my skin crawl. Thus all of new Trek is barred for me, regardless that everyone else is perfect and good.

It must be awful be flinching at the Brett visage because you can doubtless see that Granada Holmes is every kind of lovely and you don't get to have that because you can't exactly FF through the Brett bits.

As someone who grew up on dodgy British sets of the 70s and Skippy...

No, I mean Holmes is wonderful, both Watsons are wonderful, the knitted and crocheted wardrobe pieces are wonderful.

But you know, if Jeremy Brett's face is the deal-breaker then all the rest doesn't matter.

I love that cover so much. When I shared it with a friend, she said it sounded like the sort of music Stephen Fry would jazzercise to.

My general solution for TV I want to watch, but not look at, is have it as background noise while I fold laundry. It might be worth a try for you, too.

In all seriousness, the biggest reason I don't watch Elementary is because looking at Johnny Lee Miller annoys me. I'm just all "Go away, Johnny Lee Miller, be somewhere I can avoid looking at you!"

So I definitely know having that feeling about an actor (who plays Sherlock Holmes).

Oh? I've only heard the Noel Coward version. Which was fun. Though not actually sung.

That is such a pity. I feel sorry for you.

I LOVE IT. Even though you are wrong about Brett.

I have that exact problem with Cumberbatch. Between that and Sherlock's repellent fandom [the core awful that seems to think this show invented Holmes] I still haven't seen all the episodes though I've enjoyed the four I've managed to see well enough.

On a side note, I keep wondering about all the "ZOMG, Holmes and Watson must be white British men" thing. Between the animated mouse and the Jack Russell terrier, that illusion should have long been shattered.

I'll have to go looking for that. Holmes' personality is very cat-like.

That is so true! I think that comparison actually came up in the original stories.
