Star Trek: Section 31

I keep seeing people declaring that "no one" wants this series. Which is a lie, because I want it very much and deeply resent the pandemic for delaying filming.

(I realise this is the very least of the problems with the pandemic, but it's one of them.)

Anyway, literally all we know about the series is that Michelle Yeoh is led, Erika Lippolt and Bo-Yeon Kim are showrunners, and Alex Kurtzman said in an interview that it's about women, and particularly young women.

We especially don't know when in canon it will be set, but I have some ideas...

In the 32nd century. David Cronenberg will make regular appearances. The big bad is played by David Lynch.

I went back and forth between options several times, but decided that I had to make people commit.

Of course, then I realised that meant I had to commit, and that I played myself.

(Comedy aside, my personal preference is for a 32nd century setting, because it's a cool environment that deserves further exploration. But I feel like we're setting up for Michael and Georgiou to be permanently separated, and for Michael to be in a position to let Georgiou make that choice. Sooooooo who knows? I'm kind of into the idea of Georgiou landing in 2399 and deciding to rebuild S31, only to realise with dawning horror that she has developed ... ethics.)

I am unable to understand anyone who says they don't want a Trek: Section 31 show. It's a brilliant idea, imo.

There's a lot of appeal in the concept of "there is only one woman who can save the multiverse, and she's the very worst person for the job".

Not only do I think Georgiou is going to jump back in time for this show, I think it's going to happen in the next two episodes.

Given that the Section 31 show predates Strange New Worlds, I find it highly unlikely that they'll overlap. My money is on the Picard era, or possibly on the 24thC after the end of DS9.

All I know is, I'm desperate for Luthor Sloan to appear from the shadows and throw the hood back off a long dark cloak, grumble about rigged games, and possibly bemoan a man named "Melvin."

I can't believe I voted for Two Spooky Davids over shirtless Jason Isaacs, but here we are.

(They should bring David Fincher and make it Three Spooky Davids!)

I'm definitely with you on being excited for this spinoff! I think it'll probably be set back in the 23rd century (probably with Ash coming back too), but I'd be into 32nd or hopping around the multiverse too. I don't want them to pick any time solely for the tie-ins they could do to another (non-Disco) Trek series, though.

That said, I'm not looking forward to losing Georgiou and Burnham's relationship on Discovery, assuming it's not set in the 32nd century. Especially since it's the only consistently-depicted relationship with another woman Michael seems to have left (don't even get me STARTED on what they've done to her and Tilly's friendship).
