lizbee: (Avatar: Fire Nation huddle!)
It's been a week since I finished watching Avatar. How time has flown, and I didn't even remember to make a post noting that I had finished watching the show and was now onto DEVOURING THE FIC. (OMG, the fic! My recs, both fic and art, are going here, although at this stage I haven't gotten around to adding notes as to why I love said fanworks.)

So yes, it's been a week. And since I'm off to Brisbane tomorrow, thus limiting my fandom time somewhat, here are the top 5 things I have learned from the show:

1. There is no war in Ba Sing Se.

2. When it comes to the Fire Lord, characterisation would be nice, but taking his shirt off and burning it in preparation for a fight to the death is also fine.

3. Zuko's not sulking. He's brooding. But he doesn't expect a peon like you to understand the difference.

4. When in doubt, consult a turtle.

5. Toph Bei Fong > you.

I'm also learning new things from fic. For example, in their spare time, the entire Fire Nation royal family works shifts in Iroh's tea shop. I'm quite in favour of a system that puts the aristocracy to work in the service industry, but I'm really not sure Mai has the personality for customer service.

Also, apparently there are as yet no AUs where Mai and Ty Lee escape with the others at the end of "Boiling Rock". This makes me a bit sad, since there is endless potential for hilarity. With Katara being all, "You brought your girlfriends?"

And Ty Lee and Mai answer, "I'm not his girlfriend," at the same time as Zuko is saying, "Ty Lee's not my girlfriend," and then there is comedy awkwardness. And Ty Lee can offer helpful advice, which Zuko does not appreciate at all.

"I can't talk to you like this," he says.

"Why?" Ty Lee asks. "Is it because my keen insight into your psyche makes you uncomfortable?"

"No, because you're upside down. I get a sore neck just looking at you."

"Fine," says Ty Lee, uprighting herself. "Go apologise to Mai before she starts using the Avatar's lemur for target practice."
