I've been updating my LibraryThing account lately, so if you want a partial look at my bookshelves in virtual form, feel free to have a squiz.  I have to admit, I'm terribly pleased with the way it's looking at the moment, and can't wait to add more.

looooooooong response

Oh, goodness. I am about to go through my books and donate a bunch*, so I am totes bookmarking this site. Sadly, I have gone from fifteen boxes of books when I moved six years ago to about five shelves. No Little House on the Prairie, but I do have two complete sets of the Narnia novels, so I guess my childhood isn't completely forgotten.

My dream for when I have a house I own and plan to stay in is a GIANT LIBRARY. Nothing but books and comfy chairs. I have been designing this room since I was 7. No television, no computer, no radio. Possibly with a giant cabinet for magazines and newspapers. And lots of plastic plants.

I never realized how expensive books were and how LUCKY I was for my library -- and my grandparents -- until I started buying my own. Thank goodness for Half-Price Books (especially as the cheesy scifi novels are always about 10 cents).

I didn't understand the whole "children in poverty have less books to read" thing until I was about seventeen -- then I realized that for a parent of a kid who *didn't* read, buying books to entice would be a wasted effort. If I had to choose between that new skateboard my 9-year-old REALLY wanted sobadsobad or an Alcott series, I would choose the skateboard. If I am going to spend the money that I've worked hard for, it will be on something appreciated.

Yes. Books. Whoo.

I joined LibraryThing in the first blush, got to the book limit and got a year's subscription. Then... didn't do a thing with it, so it lapsed. My inclination is to CATALOG MOAR, either because of or despite my actual job, but I can't see paying money to do what I'm paid to do at work.

Though I want to.
