For once, fandom doesn't make me facepalm
Sep. 1st, 2009 07:57 amYou guys have all heard about the exceptionally dodgy survey going around? The one that seeks to link fandom and fanfic to inherent biological differences between male and female brains, complete with IP tracking, questions about drug use and ties to TV gameshows and Homeland Security? (Really, you can't make this up.) And that's without the unethical nature of the questions and the whole manner in which the (male) authors have gone about their research, all for a book (due out next year!) called Rule 34: What Netporn Can Teach Us About The Human Brain. Or something along those lines, anyway.

The really great thing about this whole business is watching fandom school these authors in their own field.
cesario and I were saying yesterday that since the FanLib thing, it's as if fandom has come of age. It's quite heartwarming. Not to mention entertaining, because a really good smackdown is always fun, and I particularly enjoy it when evolutionary psychology comes under the boot.
Bless you, fandom. Free hugs for all!
