Oh, DW fandom.
Sep. 15th, 2009 07:49 amMy troll is back!
But I find I care less than I used to, because I'm too busy facepalming at B5 fandom and the notion that Delenn "owes" Lennier for his unrequited love. I know I've ranted about this before, but seriously, SO MUCH FIC COMES OUT OF THIS IDEA THAT IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. I mean, a bit, but most of the really interesting Minbari fic revolves around it. Like, I'll be reading, and it will be well-written and interesting, and then HELLO, RANDOM FAIL.
Probably I am just applying my own reading of characters and events and demanding that everyone dance to my tune, but I don't know, something about it makes me twitchy. Like the scene at the end of "All Alone In The Night", where Sheridan and Hague are like, "In order to avoid a possible coup, we really need to start thinking about launching a coup of our own". It's probably not intentional, just JMS failing to think things through. Like Delenn's age, which seems to suffer a minor case of JKR Mathematical Incompetence Syndrome.
I could watch the scene where the Grey Council chucks out Delenn for days. I mean, I went back a few times, because it was twenty times more interesting than Sheridan's story, and had Robin Sachs. He played Lalla Ward's twin brother once, you know. Also, Neroon. *snugs him* I like the divisions within the Council -- some, like Hedronn, seem more appalled that Delenn has disobeyed them and taken a, um, proactive approach to prophecy fulfillment. While Neroon is mostly letting his inner xenophobe run free, while also getting revenge for his pwnination in "Legacies".
I am intrigued that Delenn never mentions that Kosh supported her, because you'd think they'd take a Vorlon seriously. On the other hand, "A Vorlon made me do it" sounds pretty weak. *handwave* Being Minbari, they probably all have sixty conflicting reasons for everything, and count them all as truth.
There, who have I made unhappy with this post? *counts* Delenn/Lennier shippers, JMS, JKR, some fictional characters. Not a bad start to the morning. I hope the troll is paying attention!

Date: 2009-09-16 12:17 am (UTC)The first time I read it, I'd just rolled out of bed, and thought it was rather good. Now I've read it again (having had breakfast, two cups of tea and some more sleep), and I think it reaches some dodgy conclusions, attempts to shoehorn the original wank into a Web 2.0 discussion, makes at least one erroneous claim, and yes, the flock breakage.

Otherwise, I'd say use their contact address to talk directly to the editorial board: http://journal.transformativeworks.org/index.php/twc/about/contact
(I wouldn't be put off by the 'generic' editor@ address, it actually means you get to communicate with the whole TWC board direct rather than a gatekeeping admin, I believe.)
