B5: "Ceremonies of Light and Dark"

One of my favourite episodes, not so much because it's good, but because it hits several of my crack buttons and has some good scenes. I don't know if I'd call it a good episode on its own merits; it mostly wraps up the immediate threads from "Severed Dreams" and brings some character arcs to the fore. Wait, those are all aspects I enjoy. Maybe it is a good episode.
Reason #1 to like it: Londo gets all the good lines. "I intend to have other plans". "And because I have poisoned your drink" is kind of up there with "I did it twenty-five minutes ago" in terms of OH SHIT, SOMEONE'S GONNA GET IT NOW! moments.
Reason #2: The scene where Marcus is, um, questioning people in the bar. Right from "And five minutes after that, I'm going to be the last person in this room still standing" to his deep and meaningful with Lennier. Which is ... okay, in my head it goes like this:
Lennier: "LOOK, JUST BECAUSE I'M NOT A TOTAL PRICK DOESN'T MEAN I'M JUST A HUMAN WITH A FANCY HEADBONE! I'M A MINBARI! I HAVE NEEDS! ALSO I LOVE DELENN, BUT NOT LIKE THAT BECAUSE OURS IS A WHOLESOME AND PURE LOVE, JUST LIKE BELLA AND EDWARD, ONLY SHE'S TOTALLY PLANNING TO GET IT ON WITH SHERIDAN, WHO I GUESS IS THE JACOB IN THIS METAPHOR. AND THAT DOESN'T BOTHER ME AT ALL. SEE? NOT BOTHERED. TEAM JACOB, THAT'S ME." *TWITCH*
Marcus: *is blown away by capslock*
(Here is a secret I have never told anyone: the inside of my head frequently looks like a one-woman B5 capslock comm.)
Reason #3: Delenn's Extremely Incognito Bar-hopping Cloak, also to be seen in season 5 when she's sneaking around behind Sheridan's back, breaking fingers and (Lennier's) heart.
The plot, "Delenn gets kidnapped by pro-Earth extremists", is a popular cliche in fic. But, what with fandom being so feminist and all, the fic versions usually feature more crying and suffering on Delenn's part, and less off-the-cuff psychiatry and hilariously self-serving accounts of the Earth-Minbari war. Okay, maybe Delenn's revisionist history is not that hilarious. Given that Minbari culture has a strong thread of conformity, and tends to shy away from individualism, she's probably not even lying when she says that one leads, everyone else follows and the people went mad as one. Only, you know, leaving out the bit where it was she who led that merry parade of genocide. Turns out the "Minbari are funny about their leaders" line is even better after you've seen "Atonement".
Oh, show. If I'd known you were so awesome, I'd have watched you years ago.
