So that was great, except for all the scenes that were totally WTF or offensive in some way or another. Some scenes were both WTF and offensive!
In short, there were about three good bits. Maybe four. Let me list them:
- Lucy's redemption. Her "I'm not that bright" line reminded me of Jo in the most terrible way. SHE CAUGHT THE MASTER IN HER OWN XANATOS GAMBIT. Which didn't work, but still: points for trying, totally makes up for dancing while the human race is eradicated. I'm terribly upset she's dead, and even more upset that a whole lot of women sacrificed themselves for the Master, which isn't at all dodgy, no.
On the other hand, a Time Lord could totally survive an explosion even without being Master Crazypants, so I'm going to assume that Lucy opened her fobwatch, became Romana and regenerated into Lady Gaga.
- The bit where the Master remembers his father's estate, and playing with the Doctor. "Running through fields" may be a euphemism.
- The bit with Wilf in the cafe, where the Doctor almost breaks down in tears. Spoiled by the bit where Wilf is like, "Donna's not earning enough money, your magic Time Lord skillz could totes safe her from a life in the working/lower middle class".
- Christmas with the Mott-Noble family. "IT'S ALWAYS TIME FOR MARGARITAS!" Is it coincidence that the best scenes all involved Donna? I think not.
- The DoctorDonna is still fighting.
Okay, that was five good bits out of seventy minutes. The rest was cack. Remember that bit where Obama turns into the Master? Right before he's magically going to save the world's economy? No, I don't know what to make of it either.
