OMFG SHERLOCK HOLMES

SO I KNEW FROM THE TRAILER THAT THIS WOULD BE HILARIOUS, BUT I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO ALSO BE GOOD. I HATE JUDE LAW LIKE SYPHILIS, BUT HE TOTALLY HAD THE ONLY REALLY GOOD PORTRAYAL OF WATSON, LIKE, EVER.
ALSO, IRENE = WIN. CANON SCHMANON, IF ANYONE NEEDS ME, I SHALL BE WRITING FIC ABOUT IRENE ADLER, INTERNATIONAL MISTRESS OF CRIME.
To cut the capslock for a second, the bit at the end where she said, "Moriarty. The man I was working for, his name's Moriarty", I GOT CHILLS. Oh hey, the capslock is back. WELL, IT WAS THAT GOOD.
Seriously, first person who says it fails because it's not like canon gets a great big THE POINT, YOU MISS IT macro. Because it was win, in the way that a really good comic book movie is win. And no, the Holmes canon is not a comic book, but he occupies the same sort of cultural space, and no one's going around burning Doyle collections just because they changed, um, a lot. Like how Mary Morstan has never met Holmes (and would chuck a glass of wine over him if he was a douchebag, which he would be on account of how the subtext is surfacing).
ALSO DID I MENTION HOW IT WAS AMAZING? EXCUSE ME, NOW I HAVE TO GO WRITE MASSES OF OT3 FIC. OMFG I HAVEN'T LOVED A MOVIE THIS MUCH SINCE, LIKE, EVER.
...sajee,
dear_prudence, wanna come see it with me sometime? IT'S TOTALLY AWESOME.
Also? I walked out going, "What Doctor Who special are you talking about? Why are you talking about that when IRENE ADLER IS AMAZING?" So that was good.
