I think Peter David ruined this one for me.  I was totally obsessed with Q-Squared when I was about twelve -- alternate timelines + actual Picard/Crusher = win, even if almost none of the characterisation worked for me.  And I have a really difficult time reconciling David's Trelane with the actual character, and since I read Q-Squared before I saw this ... well ,you know.
