Calling in sick again, for the fourth day in a row. Am thinking of just wiping out the whole week and starting again on Monday. I felt okay yesterday, although doing some groceries (AND PICKING UP MY NEW IPHONE) left me so wobbly I had to take a taxi home. Maybe that was the first sign I wasn't quite well enough to go back to work? Today my cough has returned, coupled with lethargy, and it's not that my job involves any running around, but transcription is surprisingly hard work, and reading my flist and calling to make yet another doctor's appointment has wiped me out.
DID I MENTION MY NEW IPHONE? Capslock is great; you have the illusion of enthusiasm, without actually exerting any energy. It's a lovely phone, although something about the way it interacts with Vista meanst that I have to manually change the security settings on all my music if I want to put any songs on it. But that's okay, my iPod isn't even two years old yet.
The iPhone's other failing is that they make it jolly difficult to use an mp3 as a ringtone. My old Nokia phone, bless its buggy soul, did it with the click of a button. Here, I had to clip a song in iTunes, convert it to m4a, then convert that to m4r, and upload it again. Shenanigans! But I persevered, and now if you call me, the world will hear Lady Gaga telling you to stop calling, stop calling, she don't want to talk anymore.
You know what makes up for all that? Apps. Especially Stanza, a free ebook reader. It can access files from Stanza Desktop, provided that your phone is on the same wireless network as your computer. This is actually a little creepy, but also awesome. The Echofon app comes with a built-in Twitpic uploader, which is handy. I did not buy the app to make your phone into a sonic screwdriver, because I have a sonic screwdriver around here somewhere all ready. On the other hand, I spent $5.99 on Tetris, because some things are worth it.
My other new acquisition is a slow cooker.
sister_ananke can tell you that I've yearned for a slow cooker for many years, and when I saw that Coles was selling them for $29 -- well, you know. It's quite handy, especially in that I can chop things up, throw them in the pot, and then go and have my second nap of the day. Monday I made an Italian vegetable casserole, which was highly delicious. Yesterday's ginger teriyaki tofu was less successful; the tofu was nice -- I had been afraid that slow cooking it would make it yuck, but I fried it first, so it was crispy, and it turned out nice. But the sauce was way too salty.
Today I'm doing an autumn vegetable stew, in what the recipe claims is Corfu style. Thinking that I was going to work today, I got it all ready to go last night, and just need to switch the cooker on at nine. Plans for the future involve beef stroganoff (on a night when resident vegetarian
suburbannoir won't be home for dinner), and a quinoa casserole. Also, apparently you can make corn bread in a slow cooker. This intrigues me.
Right. 8:31, the office manager will be in, time to call and let her know I'm not coming in. Again. Then, I believe there's time for a very quick nap before I go to the doctor's.
