Avatar: the Last Airbender fandom: Sign-ups are open for the White Lotus Lunar New Year Exchange. I can't remember the last time I did a fannish gift exchange, because they so rarely coincide precisely with my obsession of the moment. But then there was this one, and it's open, not just to fic, but to arts and vids and crafts and food. So that's exciting.

Speaking of Avatar, having exhausted more reputable archives, I've been scouting FF.net in search of some fic. Mostly on my phone before I go to sleep, so really I need to find and bookmark the ones that are actually bearable. There were totally some good fics! On the other hand, there were also many fics involving the celebration of Christmas. Or Thanksgiving. I mean, come on, people.

Also, although I'm generally a canon shipper, I wouldn't have said that I had any particularly strong feelings about other pairings, and could possibly see Katara/Zuko if set up probably, and my weird love for post-widowhood romance kind of leads me down that direction, except that takes us into the Die For Our Ship Trope, which would be embarrassing.

Anyway, despite being the very soul of rationality -- WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING? STOP IT! I WASN'T JOKING! -- it looks like two-thirds of the Zuko section on FF.net goes, "Zuko breaks up with Mai because he loves Katara; Mai goes on a crazy-ass revenge because she's a horrible person and a bad character; Aang is conveniently forgotten." Which, after the third page, started to make me twitch.

Also, also, also, and this is probably not a point that anyone reading this actually requires, but here's a useful tip anyway: there is no "a" anywhere in "Fire Lord".

And all this pretty much represents everything going on in my life, that I can discuss in an unlocked LJ entry. Work is being annoying in ways I can't really discuss at all, but the important thing is that we're not these guys. So I've been spending a lot of time planning fics, then get home and have no energy to write them.

But there's an upside! For one thing, I just found myself thinking, "I could really for something sweet," and then I remembered I have a cupcake. When there's a vanilla chocolate cupcake in your life, nothing else can seem too terrible.

I started reading a fic once where Toph was pondering whether after they died people just rotted in the ground or turned into fluffy winged angels in heaven.

And thus it makes me happy that white lotus is having a lunar new year exchange. Must decide if I want to sign up for the exchange, and if so what I want.

I'm an appalling speller, but...no. No there isn't.

I like the idea of Katara/Zuko in theory, but like Mai too much to find much of it readable in practice.

Yeah. I've seen fics where she goes off to have an amazing life of her own, but it doesn't really jibe with what we see at the end of the series.
