LJ: the DDoSening
Apr. 8th, 2011 08:22 pmThe reason LJ has been frequently down lately is because it's the main hub of blogging (much of it political) in Russia, and various groups object to that. This post sums it up, although I am puzzled by the people asserting that Dreamwidth will never be a hub for online activity for anyone, since it's where I make and receive the majority of comments. (I mean, obviously it depends what you're there for, but ... yeah. I heart my DW, and just bought another year of paid time here.)
(And if anyone's interested, the update on DW's financial status is here. To summarise: they are cruising.)

Date: 2011-04-08 03:08 pm (UTC)(DW has not been so great for me fannishly, but eh. Either that will change or it won't--I do remember the shift from y!groups to LJ wasn't magically instantaneous, as people seem to have hoped for here.)

Date: 2011-04-08 09:31 pm (UTC)(It occurs to me that I like AtLA fandom on DW because everything here is new, so there are no series-era shipwars lurking in the archives. I once stumbled across an essay explaining how the series could not possibly end with Zuko and Mai together, because she was ugly and unemotional and a social climber, and I was both puzzled and annoyed.)
