The reason LJ has been frequently down lately is because it's the main hub of blogging (much of it political) in Russia, and various groups object to that. This post sums it up, although I am puzzled by the people asserting that Dreamwidth will never be a hub for online activity for anyone, since it's where I make and receive the majority of comments. (I mean, obviously it depends what you're there for, but ... yeah. I heart my DW, and just bought another year of paid time here.)

(And if anyone's interested, the update on DW's financial status is here. To summarise: they are cruising.)

DW is certainly the hub of MY online activity. I am so tired of people assuming it's dead here because they don't find the exact same activity patterns, comms, and social circles as on LJ.

Agree! Not everybody wants to or has the spoons to try to find new communities or people to follow, but I had a great time doing that when I first moved here, and I really love my DW rlist. I read more people than I did on lj, because of the access/subscribe split, and because I found a bunch of people I wanted to read.

I'm actually having trouble keeping up with my DW circle, eek. Sure, my types of activity have shifted because the active comms here are different, but that's okay with me.

(DW has not been so great for me fannishly, but eh. Either that will change or it won't--I do remember the shift from y!groups to LJ wasn't magically instantaneous, as people seem to have hoped for here.)

It really depends on the fandom--agreed on Avatar, not so much on some of my other fandoms. But of course not all fandoms are on LJ, either.

Oh man, that is so true. The shipwars in ATLA fandom are terrifying. It's so nice and non-argue-y here, for the most part.

(I ♥ Mai AND Katara, dammit.)

Same here! I am really fond of my DW rlist, and the community we've created here.

Yikes. Censorship like that makes me really sick.

I can go find content but DW gives me the best combination tools for my blogging and following.

Seriously, if you want the biggest and busiest the question is not why DW but why not Facebook?
