The care and feeding of your Azula

As you may have guessed by my repeated whinging references, I've been blocked on my Avatar Big Bang for a few weeks. Azula is just not the kind of character who responds well to emotional crises, even very small ones. (Small ones may be the worst, in fact. If it's a big one, there's always the option of a psychotic breakdown!)

Anyway, I seem to have finally gotten through it. Tip: if your Azula is feeling down, oppressing some peasants is sure to put a smile back on her face!

This led to what is effectively an outtake from the fic. I didn't even get as far as writing it, but it amused me enough to draw it.

(Reasons why I am not a proper art-making-person: Toph wasn't meant to be smiling there. It was a flick of the pen, and then I couldn't manage to fix it in Photoshop. I'd like to say that something similar happened with her lower body, but that would just be an excuse.)

*solemn* Local-Azula simply elects not to have them. It's one of the lovely things about being a dragon, she says: dragons do not have emotional crises.

That's certainly one way to deal with it. Reptilian psychology is much simpler in many ways.

Granted, from another perspective, one might argue that dragons also don't get to date Toph. SO.

But they also aren't triggers for "helpful" bad girlfriend interventions.

Although, come to think of it, Katara probably wouldn't approve of a dragon, either.

No, she says with a sigh, but one of their daughters gets one ANYWAY. Damn Sun Warriors.

She's not entirely against Azula as a dragon, if only because her behaviour is not KATARA's problem, and also she is still human-shaped and fits properly through all the doorways.

Oh, I don't know, Toph's smile doesn't bother me at all -- she's probably long since gotten to the point where wry amusement is her first reaction to Azula unexpectedly setting things on fire.

She's probably just glad Azula let everyone leave the building before she set it on fire.

I have been trying to think of more coherent things to say than AWWWWWWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I think Toph's smile is like, "See? This is (secretly, very secretly) why I married you."
