...the audience, obviously.

So basically this is an ENTIRE EPISODE about how Lin and Korra need to kiss, and also why isn't the ENTIRE SERIES about Lin Beifong and Tenzin being spiky and political. I CAN DIG IT.

I'm LESS EXCITED about the Lin/Tenzin thing, but I liked how Tenzin was all, "Pema's version was TOTALLY WRONG and probably HEAVILY EDITED for tiny child ears," ie, that he and Lin were already moving apart. Given that Lin is abrasive (heh) with everyone, including the members of the Council that she presumably didn't date in the past, I don't really buy the argument that she's that way because she's BITTER AND SINGLE AND ANGRY.

Also, I TOTALLY CALLED IT that Lin really liked Aang.

SO THERE.

In things which aren't about LIN BEIFONG, I wondered if fandom's improbable love for Tahno would be weakened by the fact that he's a nasty cheat, but judging by Tumblr, apparently not. (But it's possible I've absorbed more Australian sporting culture than I thought, given that I really can't cope with seeing the Fire Ferrets argue with the ref, and apparently that's not taboo in other countries.) Whatevs, I don't like him. Usually I enjoy a bit of flamboyant douchebag theatre, but Tahno's too predatory and gross, and also I really want to adjust his eyeliner. I hope he doesn't come back. Though I still need to finish that fic I started about Zuko and Mai's granddaughter infiltrating his clique.

SPEAKING OF FLAMBOYANT DOUCHEBAGS, I do like how the Equalists' new weapons are inspired by Iron Man. Noice.

Department of Fandom Being Wrong: I keep seeing people saying that it was wrong to have the game go ahead, and Not Giving In To Terrorism is just a silly American quirk that no other country would ever adopt. Which is obviously why the UK always cancelled any event threatened by the IRA, and why even now the London Olympics have been shut down. *stare*

Having said that, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe it would have helped to search the spectators, and Lin really should look into getting the metalbenders' armour insulated. RUBBER CATSUITS, LIN, THINK ABOUT IT. YES, YOUR BABY POWDER BILL WILL GO THROUGH THE ROOF, BUT YOU'LL LOOK AMAZING.

You know who else was pretty great? The pro-bending announcer. He's seconds away from electrocution, and still narrating. (According to the Republic City game at Nick's website, he started out as a crime reporter and moved over to sport for something less stressful. SORRY, DUDE, TURNS OUT TERRORISTS HATE SPORT.)

HE IS CURRENTLY WETTING HIS PANTS.

So much love, man. I just want to wrap myself up in LoK and go to sleep in it. Or maybe I need to go back to bed, IDK. LOVE. INCOHERENT CAPSLOCKY LOVE.

Don't rubber catsuits defeat the point of being able to bend your own armor?

I'm sure you can prove me wrong with episodes, but I think of Toph as being all about the skin-to-material contact. She could bend crudely without touching things, but she had a very intimate contact with earth and metal and whatever she was bending that came through preferring to touch it. See her constant bare feet.

Lin's close control over the metal that she bends may well come from the same intimate contact.

One of my first thoughts about this episode was "Lizbee is going to like this a lot!"

I'm wondering, the bearded airbender in some of Korra's flashbacks appears to be arrow-less. A younger Tenzin rather than Aang?

Was also glad to see that BeiFong didn't rapell up to the airship all by her lonesome and get de-bended. That would have really driven matters home. As it was, I actually felt sorry for the Wolf-Bats. Interesting how the Equalists actually made some legitimate points there. Creepy AND reasonable is not a good combo.

And yes: the anouncer was awesome. Also cute: the FireFerret fan in the glasses. Reminded me of that one anime with the papermancer from "Read Or Die"

Also, Cabbage Corp: Investing in technology: tell me that a recurring sight-gag from the previous series isn't going to be funding the Bad Guys this time round? Please! If someone had informed me it was going to be "Legends of Korra: Revenge of the Cabbage Guy", I would never have believed them. Now it actually seems plausible!!!

I agree. Entirely. Cough.

Tahno... I hate pretty much ever bit of him, from his tacky entrance act to his smarminess and his cheating and his pointy pointy face, but I might have cheered a little when he tried to take on Amon instead of immediately dissolving into blubbering and begging as soon as the Equalists marched onto the platform. That was cool.

Lin looks pretty amazing in her current uniform, methinks. Of course she would look amazing in a poofy ballgown, or anything.

The announcer was awesome. I kind of hope they didn't kidnap him to do radio shows for the equalists or something.

Lin Lin Lin Lin Lin Lin Lin.

That link made my day. Or, shall we say, night.

My bet is on Tahno being arrogant rather than courageous, but either way he made a good showing. Too bad it could very well be his last as a bender.

The announcer being kidnapped to do Equalist broadcasts is as awesome as it is horrible. This fic must happen.

Overall this episode melted me into a puddle in a very good way. LIN(ORRA)!!!!

Poor announcer. Hasn't he suffered enough indignities?

Aw man, I loved this episode but it is true. In the U.S., people argue with refs ALL. THE. TIME.

I loved the announcer guy! It's hilarious that he used to be a crime reporter. You could totally see it when the Equalist came to electrocute him.

I totally do not like Tarrlok's game. I'm worried that he's going to monopolize on Lin's inability to stop the Equalists from attacking the arena by taking over the Republic City police force.

I think Amon won either way. If they closed the Bending Arena, then hey! Equalists get to tell the city leaders what to do! WIN! And if they don't close it? Equalists get to beat up metal-benders and serve cold, cold justice to the cheating Wolfbats! WIN!

(Also, Lin Bei Fong is awesome. Like her mom is awesome. There is much genetic awesome here. Just had to gush about that.)
