lizbee: Chief Beifong sits at a table, looking unhappy (LoK: Lin is unimpressed)

I hope no one reads these expecting, like, coherent and thoughtful reviews. Because basically I just wordvomit everywhere and flail like Tenzin at a pro-bending match.

P E R F E C T I O N

(Imagine sparkly blingy gif things here; I never could figure out how to do that without going to a site that puts watermarks all over the place.)

So firstly, if they want me to stop believing Azula is Lin's other mother, they need to stop framing Lin's pout when she speaks, and also she needs to enunciate less, and basically, lots of her mannerisms are reminiscent of Azula, SO.

SECONDLY, I'm beginning to fear that Toph died quite young, possibly in the Yakone business 42 years ago, when Lin was eight. Mostly because unlike Aang she doesn't have an age at death on the Republic City game, and Hiroshi definitely referred to her in the past tense. So ... well, okay, that's the totality of my evidence, but it seems plausible and makes me want to cuddle wee!Lin while also surreptitiously organising a small army of mental health professionals for Azula.

On the other hand, this could be a COMPLETELY WRONG THEORY like the TOTALLY NOT CHARACTER OR SHIP-BASHING IT JUST SEEMS REALLY PLAUSIBLE, HONEST theory that Asami would turn out to be Amon's second in command. You know, the guy with the MOUSTACHE who's voiced by LANCE HENRICKSON. Sure, that was a great theory. Next tell me how Mai and Asami worked together to create Sozin's Comet!

Oh, ASAMI. I've been kind of neutral-positive on Asami since her introduction, since she's nice and all, just hadn't done anything I found hugely interesting, and was quite devoid of emotional and psychological damage.

Now she's done interesting stuff, and turned against her father, and left behind all the material privilege she's used to! And has also made good points about oppression and institutional harassment of non-benders and generally been pretty great!

AND now they're all living together, and I really love stories about groups of friends being domestic, and cooking together and stuff, so my id is purring like a kitten demanding belly rubs. Now Asami and Korra can help the boys learn proper fighting (although I really enjoy seeing them improvise with their sports training!), and hang out with the children, and tease Tenzin and get Bad Advice from Pema (*sitcom theme music*) and it'll be GREAT! Oh, and there seems to be some kind of war happening, IDK.

REMEMBER THAT TIME LIN DECIDED TO RESIGN FROM THE POLICE AND SEEK JUSTICE ~OUTSIDE THE LAW~? HER MOTHERS WOULD BE SO PROUD OF HER RIGHT NOW.

I love how Korra regards Asami's make-up and general femininity with a mixture of fear, resentment and curiousity. HELLO, MYSELF AT 17. "What is with girls who ... know how make-up ... goes? THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM! BECAUSE THE ALTERNATIVE IS THAT THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME. Actually, they seem pretty cool. And now they are my friends. BUT I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND MAKE-UP, MAYBE I'LL TRY A LITTLE, OKAY SUDDENLY I'M 30 YEARS OLD AND DON'T LIKE LEAVING THE HOUSE WITHOUT AT LEAST BB CREAM AND MASCARA."

In short, TOP JOB, SHOW. I choose to believe that the guy whose tip off led TEAM LIN AND SOME OTHER PEOPLE into a trap was genuinely a disillusioned Equalist who wanted to do the right thing, and he was just manipulated by Sato.

In conclusion:

MY CABBAGE CORP!

I'm half-serious about wanting to make that Dirty Lin poster, and I agree with you about Tipoff Guy.

In other news, I wonder why earthbenders and waterbenders never seem to kill anybody. At least, nobody with children. At least, nobody whose children are important to the plot.

That makes sense but it's getting slightly repetitive as a backstory. Katara, for instance, could easily have skewered somebody fatally (and was going to in the case of Yon Rha) on the ice spears that she favours in certain situations (and offensive use of ice doesn't seem to be particularly uncommon relative to some of the more arcane byways of waterbending), and Long Feng actually did kill a named character with earthbending onscreen. You're right that there's greater ruthlessness implied, of necessity, with using those disciplines fatally, though.

Is it just me or has just about everyone significant lost a family member to firebending bandits? Amon(at least according to him), Mako and Bolin, now Sato...

Maybe it's all just the same firebender, going around killing everybody.

It may also be that after the whole Fire Nation Expansion Era faded out, you had a lot of Firebending soldiers at loose ends, and they and their kids (and their kids' kids) were kind of memetically predisposed to be... hot-tempered. And mug people.

I think the Agni Kai Triad may just have been a Triad with a lot of Firebenders (as Triple Threat employed Water/Earth/Fire) and it was coinkidink. Er, coincidence that it was them instead of Triple Threat, or a hypothetical DragonMole Earthbender Triad, or a hypothetical Water Triad Rules.

Or maybe it was the same Firebender who killed Mako and Bolin's parents, and this will all come out!

They may also be setting Mako up for some Inner Conflict about his own bending... (Poor boy's not angsty 'nuff. Gotta fix that. Maybe Zuko can show up and tell him how to angstbend? I heard a rumor that he's supposedly still kicking around... (Actually, Zuko can at least redirect lightning, last we knew; I would love to see an Equalist try to zap him with the glove. {{Ancient Zuko looks at the arcing glove, puts his finger on the Equalist's nose, and ZOT.}}))

(Sorry to pop in... I don't have enough people who flail about Korra with me, so I have to go find people. *sneaks out again*)

I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed in Lin's vigilante plan, because the way she brought legal/political concerns into the show in the pilot marked Korra as a different creature from A:tLA right away. I liked that she stopped Korra's vigilantism. Now she's going to turn that way herself because she's pretty sure Water Tribe Council Guy's going to ask for her badge? That's going too far, too fast for me. Which isn't to say I didn't like the episode - with Asami and the Fire Ferrets joining Korra on Air Temple Island it finally feels like a new protagonist gang is forming, and that's awesome.

This episode was great. MY CABBAGE CORP! indeed.

I was all expecting the tipoff to be something else. a trap only in that falsely accusing an industry giant would be the end of Lin's career.

Also, a giant platinum door? platinum armored mecha? huhbuwha?

The look on Korra's face when Asami took out her dad and Lance Henrickson in three seconds flat was the best.

I LOVED THIS EPISODE SO MUCH. TEAM. LIVING TOGETHER. Group hugs all the time now? Korra and Asami racing made me clap my hands together a lot. :DDD

I really, really want someone to write me fic without character bashing where everyone is just HEARTBROKEN AND MAKING GOOD LIFE CHOICES. And then a sequel where they all live on air temple island together. Of course, I have a six hour car trip tomorrow, so I might come up with something myself... ;)
