I was so disappointed in God of the Hive that I haven't even read the new Mary Russell book, and now there's ANOTHER ONE coming out! And it looks CRACKTACULAR with an option for good, so I guess I need to catch up.

I have not read PIRATE KING either! I am so behind at life. Maybe I shall make it my reward for finishing my WiP, but in the meantime that description of GARMENT OF SHADOWS is making me all NOM NOM NOM.

It's a little distressing to realize I am so easily charmed by such an old trope. But let's be frank, if it's about Holmes having to woo Russell all over again then this is going to be AWESOME.

There is a reason we have been friends for over ten years, after all...

Given that "Pirate King" is about making a movie about making a movie about the Pirates of Penzance with actual pirates (which is then set upon by actual pirates), I think "Cracktacular" is an adjective that's already been taken. :-P

...I may have missed a recursive movie and/or pirates in that plot description.

But amnesia is always good too. :-) Thanks for the update. I like to put such things on my personal publishing calendar (I actually have one, it's sad.).

I heard you liked pirates, so I put some pirates in your Pirates? Good to know. I seem to prefer the more cracktacular Russells anyway, just as I seem to prefer Connie Willis's ridiculous over-the-top romps to her Serious and Depressing stories.

(Speaking of which, given that I absolutely loved TO SAY NOTHING OF THE DOG but can only muster a distant sort of respect for DOOMSDAY BOOK, can anybody tell me if I'm at all likely to enjoy BLACKOUT / ALL CLEAR?)

That is actually an excellent description. XD As long as you do not attempt, in any way shape or form, to take it seriously, Pirate King is entertaining.

I've been kind of avoiding them, partly because I don't like grimdark! books, but also because from what I hear the research into London is kind of sloppy and desperately needed a Brit-picker, and I suspect it would annoy me. But YMMV.

I am apparently way behind on Mary Russell books -- the consequence of not having a bookstore or a library close enough to walk to on a whim or in an area that I frequent anymore.
