DW/LJ friending meme!

A friending meme to combat the decline in content on non-Tumblr platforms! (Not that Tumblr isn't great in its own way, I just don't find it a useful place for discussion.) I've friended a handful of people, and will go back to look at more.
I'm mildly intrigued at the number of people who include "pointless negativity and squee-harshing" in their flist turn-offs.
Expect some spam today -- remember when people would routinely make three journal posts in a day, and that would be normal and not spammy? -- as I'm still catching up on a few things, like my monthly book posts. Although I also see a doctor's visit looming today, because I've somehow developed a twitch in my left pinkie finger. Which is probably just stress related, only how stressed can I be when I've just gotten back from a holiday? I figure I should get that looked at ASAP in case it's carpal tunnel or something equally likely to interfere with work.

Date: 2012-12-07 09:57 pm (UTC)Which is . . .you know, people are totally entitled to their dislike? Gods know anyone who loved Stirling's Emberverse would hate reading my journal, but I also wouldn't friend someone in that fandom without knowing that they, like me, were hate-loving it. Because someone who loves it does not deserve to have the great moments of heroism of, say, Meeting at Corvallis totally squee-harshed by the fact that I cannot take the male lead seriously without wanting to kill him, so I mock the shit out of him and his Best Hero Ever take.
If you're trying to build a community based on a mutual love for a thing that makes you happy, the person who's there out of some weird compulsion but mostly spends their time bitching about its flaws is kiiiiinda a killjoy. When that killjoyness is backed up by the whump of "and if you think differently, you are misogynist/racist/homophobic/whatever and you are bad and should feel bad", the joy-killing goes a little further.
(There are any number of things where I go "if you love X, I am not the person you want to discuss X with. I do not think you are a bad person for loving X, but I hate X for various reasons.")

Date: 2012-12-07 10:05 pm (UTC)(On the other hand, I totally hated a lot of RTD's run on Doctor Who, and got tied up in stupid shipping wars and stuff, so I feel like a tiny bit of a hypocrite complaining? ON THE OTHER HAND, I never went into squee places to be grumpy at people.)

Date: 2012-12-07 10:01 pm (UTC)How best does one consolidate friending memes? I am planning on putting up a Doctor Who-specific friending meme this weekend as well, on lj. It's not quite gone live yet b/c I was still getting permissions to pimp it from various lj comms. Well hey, the more the merrier! I will post over there and try to cross-pollinate.
