yiduiqie and I talked a lot at Continuum about social justice, and the problem where most of the discourse around Issues in media and fandom is American.

In an effort to address that, we've created No Award, a blog where we talk about stuff. So quite different from all those other blogs!

The first post is me talking about Pacific Rim (short version: robots good, racism, sexism, colonialism, inaudible dialogue, boring plot bad) but yiduiqie has EVEN MORE to say about that movie, in three separate posts coming up over the next few days.

I loved the spectacle of Pacific Rim, and overall, consider the parts better than the sum. And I like that it demonstrates what can be done - it makes me hope what will come next will be done better.

I went to see this movie because 1) del Toro 2) I love Neon Genesis Evangelion 3) I'd heard it was good.

I agree with what you said except that the robots were good. They were occasionally cool, but most of the time you couldn't even really see what was going on. Give me some anime any day.
