Further re LoK spoilers

ASK ME HOW GLAD I AM THAT LIN DOESN'T KNOW WHO HER FATHER IS. And likewise her (half) sister. Because I genuinely don't care? Frankly, as long as it's not Sokka -- which would have made Lin and Tenzin cousins, mind -- I tried not to get too invested in Lin not having a father, because I didn't actually think Nick would go there.

Mostly, I'm deeply amused that Toph was about as great at this parenting thing as Aang, ie, not very. I can't WAIT to find out how Zuko messed his kids up.

(A whole bunch of my WiPs have just been rendered basically unfixable, because the new spoilers have shifted my whole sense of Lin's characterisation. I may dump them online later on. One is saveable! And, possibly, improved by the revelation that Lin has family.)

PS TOPH IS ALIVE. I like to think she and Zuko are in fact on a life-changing field trip, and she's just dropped out of the current plot stuff of book 3 because it involves going to places that are too cold for bare feet.

And hey, Lin not knowing who her father is means that Toph/Azula + baster baby is still plausible!

I dunno, it seems pretty clear that there was effectively NO parental figure in Lin and Su's lives growing up. On the other hand, I would totally buy Azula as the, "Hi, kids, I'm gonna tell you one blood-curdling bedtime story about that time I murdered your Uncle Aang, then Toph and I are locking our door, then I'm back to govern my province because Zuko thinks it needed a firmer hand and that's what I'm good at" parent.

(There seems to be a sliver of doubt regarding Toph's alive-ness or otherwise, given that lots of fans are wishing they'd paid attention in Spanich classes. Not me, obviously, because that's not the second major language of my country.)

(If the next leaks are in Mandarin, Vietnamese or Arabic, obviously I'll feel very bad about my monolingualism.)

I've deliberately avoided looking for the downloads because I'll only be frustrated my Spanish isn't good enough. (My French is good enough that I can muddle my way through Spanish, but I find it much easier to understand written Spanish than spoken.)

I haven't bothered with the downloads, but some very kind people have put up extensive summaries with screencaps. You'll be shocked to hear that this year's villain is devastatingly hot. Man, this franchise never does that!

I am sitting somewhere between "WOW my Spanish is AWFUL" and "For never having studied Spanish, I'm getting a lot of the gist of this!" Thanks, Latin and French.

That said. I had not yet got to these particular spoilers so SQUEEEEE. Family definitely seems to be the theme of these eps, if not this book.
