Legend of Korra 3.11 - "The Ultimatum"

GUYS, I AM NOT OKAY WITH CUTTING AWAY AS TENZIN IS BEING BEATEN

I'M LIKE, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CHILD-APPROPRIATE VIOLENCE, GUYS, BUT HE'S ALREADY INJURED AND BEING BEATEN POSSIBLY TO DEATH, AND THAT IS PROFOUNDLY NOT OKAY AND I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE'S WRITING HURT/COMFORT FIC BECAUSE I THINK HE NEEDS A GENTLE HUG

So basically I'd like next week to involve Pema and Lin and Kya bringing a world of discomfort to the Red Lotus. That would be great.

Other things:

- Korra, why are you going to Zuko for advice? HE MAKES TERRIBLE DECISIONS. Like going back to the Fire Nation to protect his daughter, when she presumably has a whole army and could have been warned by radio, whereas the Northern Air Temple could probably use some dragon action right about now.
- I'm pretty sure that if the Air Nation were to produce a big bad, it would be Meelo.
- AHHHHHHHHHHH, AANG AND KATARA'S KIDS IN A FIGHT TOGETHER. Two very powerful benders plus Bumi's scrappy street style, and they were only taken down purely because the Red Lotus have extremely unusual skills. (Tenzin by himself could have taken Zaheer, though -- I'd like a flashback to their original attempted kidnapping of Korra, to get an idea of their dynamic before Zaheer became an airbender.)
- Who was flying the Red Lotus airship?

I am genuinely concerned for Tenzin's ongoing existence in this series. And I'm ... kind of okay if he gets killed? He's my favourite male character, but where I'd be all, BURN NICKELODEON TO THE GROUND if Lin was died, I feel like killing Tenzin would be quite interesting and would make Lin suffer and I enjoy it when she's in pain.

I'm so distressed! The credits hit, and I was doing this whimpering and alarming the dog. And now I keep tearing up just at the thought of that pan away from Tenzin being beaten and how he might be killed. It's very upsetting!

I was distracted by when Iroh basically said that Zuko and Aang had a rocky relationship. XD He definitely spent too much time with Sokka.

But- yes. Argh. Tenzin!

Also, omg, little Kai was so, SO much like Aang it is unreal.

I totally expect Tenzin to die :(
but I would much rather he get saved at the last minute :/
and I hope Zuko rethinks his "flying back to the Fire Nation" plan and goes to the Northern Air Temple :|

I finally caught up on this last night, and my reaction at the end can best be summarized by a series of D: emoticons. As soon as I heard Tenzin say he'd fight until there was "no more breath" left in his body, I was all NOOOOOOO TENZIN THAT IS EXACTLY HOW THE EARTH QUEEN DIED.

RIGHT? And you probably didn't see it, but Ikkinthekitsune had this really great post listing all the ways Tenzin's death would be thematically appropriate (old growth making way for the new) AND advance the arcs of major characters like Korra and Jinora. (She didn't mention Lin, but she doesn't share my obsession. And my main fear with Tenzin dying is that Lin would give her life to take out Zaheer.)

(If Tenzin dies, I am going to Cardiff and building a shrine. What do you mean, there's no connection between LoK and Cardiff? Isn't that just where elaborate shrines to dead characters go?)

I think I might have seen Ikkinthekitsune's post about that last night, after I'd watched the show (thank goodness). Much as I don't want Tenzin to die, she listed some really good reasons why his death might push the show forward.

What do you mean, there's no connection between LoK and Cardiff? Isn't that just where elaborate shrines to dead characters go?

Well, obviously, and besides, Tenzin is way more important and interesting than the teaboy.
