On No Award, about 5000 words of discussion of Ann Leckie's Ancillary Justice and Ancillary Sword. All those words, and we didn't even get around to complaining about the Ghost Gate, and foolish persons who DON'T GO THROUGH THE GHOST GATE WHEN IT'S RIGHT THERE, I MEAN, COME ON, PEOPLE.

Companion Piece is now available for pre-order from Amazon and BookDepository.  These are for the hardcopy editions; ebook pre-orders will be available in the near future.

I'm assuming the Ghost Gate is whatever the third book will be, but man, I'd have happily traded the pseudo-white savior narrative portions of the book for even the briefest exploration of the Ghost Gate. C'mon, Imperial Radch! There was a priceless tea set there! Surely there's something else interesting as well!

DITTO. I am expecting to enjoy the third book at least 200% more than the second for Ghost Gate reasons alone.

Oh goodness don't read Three-Body Problem, it was the worst book I tried (and failed because it was so bad) to read last year.

Interestingly enough, I did part of my comparative empire comps in Roman history, and the stuff about imperialism didn't strike me as info-dumping. Maybe because its still rare to see it in SFF in mu experience. I devoured all of AJ in about a day and a half.
