Play!Draco is fanon!Snape.
Not exactly, obviously -- he's not a spy in a time of warfare, he may not have a day job at all from what we can tell, and the woman he's mourning was his actual wife and the mother of his child, not the girl he had a crush on in high school. And also, of course, he has a teenage son with whom he actually has a good relationship.
(Hands up everyone who guessed that, out of Harry and Draco, Draco would be the better father? *hand stays down*)
BUT he's coping with his feelings by being snide and sarcastic and kind of obnoxiously posh, just like fanon!Snape back in the days when we* believed in Snapely Snape Manor and all that jazz. And while I've mostly moved on from that Type now, I still have a weakness for it, when it's a character I already know.

Date: 2016-08-04 06:42 pm (UTC)In a way it makes sense--JKR always emphasized that despite their appalling ideology Draco was the center of his parents' world, while Harry, well, a few years of the Weasley family's kindness on occasional holidays can't work miracles.

Date: 2016-08-12 05:20 am (UTC)I always figured Harry would have massive problems being a father due to his total lack of decent parental figures (Arthur is great, but that's too little, too late for sure) and extremely messed up childhood. He needs to develop the tools for effective parenting on his own, years after other kids have learned from their parents.
Draco's parents may have been racist pieces of crap, but they were also clearly caring parents who sacrificed everything to give their kid the best future possible. They were completely wrong, and wound up hurting their kid more than helping, but at least they started from a good place vis a vis their family. Plus, Draco's childhood was much more stable and supportive than Harry's until 5th year at the earliest.

ETA2: By that I mean, I did not realize my Zuko icon was still on default, and also it is very late and I am perhaps slower than I should be.
