Your important Star Trek: Discovery thought for the evening

I believe yiduiqie and I are going to cover this together in more detail on No Award, but I just wanted to say this before I go on to episode 2...



...I ship Michael Burnham with everyone she has interacted with. Except for Admiral Whitedude McDickhead. And the prey guy. And the Klingon she killed.

So, mostly, I ship her with Captain Georgiou. And, highly problematically, Sarek.

Don't worry, I'm already ashamed.

ALSO I am already working out how to do my hair like Georgiou, because growing up a Voyager fan means ... I dunno, it just comes automatically, I guess.

OMG I'm so glad it wasn;t just me having the problematic ship. PHEW.
Admiral Whitedude McDickhead is now his name in my head. This is helpful, because it stops me thinking of the lead singer of Suede every time someone mentions Admiral Brett Anderson.

It's just nice to be able to perve on James Frain without worrying he's about to crush the skull of his lover's clone.

Here is a summary of every conversation columbina and I have had about Sarek over the course of the last two episodes:

Him: Man, this guy's doing a really good Mark Lenard, while also bringing his own spin to the role.

Me: James Frain. JAMES. FRAIN.

Him: I mean, he's really good. I can't believe how good he is.

Me: HAVE WE SPOKEN OF THE CHURCH OF JAMES MOTHERFUCKING FRAIN SIT DOWN MY FRIEND, WE ARE ABOUT TO HAVE A LONG TALK

RIGHT? Watching "Journey to Babel" and "Sarek" last night, I was super impressed by how well Frain plays Sarek. It's not an imitation, but they're clearly the same character.

(I don't think I have the fortitude for "Unification", even though it does have Romulan shenanigans, ie, my favourites.)

Burnham and Georgiou had such a reverse/genderswapped Kirk/Spock dynamic.

Kirk and Spock never gazed at each other with unshed tears in their eyes, though, let alone three times in two episodes!

I require all the fic, especially fic where Georgiou is turned into a Klingon Winter Soldier and overcomes the brainwashing FOR HUMANISM AND IDEALISM and also love.

Apparently "chuch mang" is "ice soldier". I don't know if I'd call that ominous-sounding, though.

Stupid fake language. TOLKIEN WOULD NEVER LET US DOWN LIKE THIS.

Oh, no. It sounds a little too much like a vulgar term for the sex act they'll enthusiastically engage in when the brainwashing has been overcome.

I haven't seen it yet -- too afraid it will suck. Does it? Or can I safely watch?

The dialogue is clunky at first, but it comes together really nicely -- it's the first Trek pilot since "The Cage" that's purely a character study, and doesn't even introduce most of the supporting cast. Michael Burnham is an amazing character, I love her already.

There's a plot twist at the end that DEVASTATED ME even though I saw it coming months ago, but I'm eager to see what happens next.
