lizbee: A sketch of myself (Star Trek: Cornwell (profile))

I have many things to say about this, not all of them intelligent, most of them consisting of excited flailing, but this work deserves more than my fits of incoherent squeeing.

I'm just speechless, because I saw your art on Tumblr, and then this amazing comment landed in my inbox!

First of all, HOW DARE YOU.

*satisfied laughter*

Second of all, THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS.

NO, THANK YOU.

This was a roller-coaster from start to finish, but the most infuriating and crafted one, with a view on the landscape to boot.

Oh man, that is such an amazing analogy, although I can't pretend I knew exactly how it was going to happen, except it would end with most people getting out alive and okay...ish.

Although Georgiou was a surprise and normally I should curse anyone inflicting such pain on any of my favourite characters, but it’s not like the show didn’t already brutally kill her and turn her into a full course. So I loved that you brought Georgiou back. More or less Georgiou. Georgiou without her pretty hair and with a monstrous arm.

I honestly had ... hmm, I was reluctant to inflict graphic torture on a WoC in this horror show of a decade, and had to walk a fine line between being true to the story as I saw it, and not holding back, but also not being gratuitous. Picard-as-Locutus, basically, but with the Disco twist of recovery taking more than a few weeks.

Georgiou without her pretty hair and with a monstrous arm.

HER HAIR WILL GROW BACK, I just figured she'd keep it short until she got a new prosthetic arm, and also that I was the only one who worried about that. (I was, apparently, wrong!)

I loved your returning again and again to how weighed Lorca’s attack on Kat was (I SCREAMED WHEN SHE WIPED OFF HER HANDS ON HIM), how a man strangling a woman draws the first blood.

It's just so hard to balance the sort of shippy fangirl reaction of "that's hot and totally messed up and very bad and I love it" with "if this was real life, it would be truly horrifying and traumatic even as a once-off and their relationship is not going to be okay from here on out".

It was a joy, darkly, and sorry for the mess of a comment.

Please don't apologise! I'm just so happy and delighted and humbled to provoke this reaction -- and art! Which is so close to what I envisioned, even the points I didn't bother describing.

I HAVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT MEN LIKE LORCA WEARING THEIR SCARS LIKE TROPHIES RATHER THAN COMMEMORATIVE PLATES BUT I’M STILL SCREAMING ABOUT KAT’S WIPING HER HANDS OFF THE KLINGON’S EYEBALL ON HIM

RIGHT??????????

Once I realised that Kat had to be the one to take Chang's eye (because Philippa's hand was full of bat'leth), I knew the next step was ... not literally handing it to Lorca, but, you know. Because now she's as messed up as him, but that doesn't mean she's going to support him any more than she did before.
