he’s still unseasoned. (Which is not an invitation to rub him down with garlic and ginger and wrap him up in a nice marinade, Philippa.)
Ahahaaaah.
I will reread your Kat meta all day every day, I love it so much--but I'd missed this:
Sarek is also Not Okay, but aside from non-consensual mind melds, he’s mostly expressing it in the form of emotional intelligence and good parenting. That’s how bad things are.
OH. Oh that's why! That makes sense! He's emo because failing to cope! Ooh I like that.
NOT SPOCK
Oh man. I'd forgotten about that. *forever facepalm*
I often talk about other characters more than Michael, because her story is right there, it doesn’t have to be teased out or debated because she’s in the foreground. But that does her a disservice, as she is so well-written, and Sonequa Martin-Green plays her beautifully.
This is how I feel too, and despite having spent two weeks solid with Epic Kat Feels, I really love how the finale pulled everything back around to Michael (I know you're talking about the previous episode here, but yeah) and pointed me again in the direction of her. Because she's just so brave and earnest and clever and has had so much emotional growth over the season. (I actually see now why they didn't time travel back. Even if I may never stop boggling at the 80k at Starbase One.)
daughter who is not my daughter
HOW is that both a) painful, b) kind of sweet because she's acknowledging that Michael exists to her as a real person even if she's not her Michael, c) kind of damn shippy??
I have to sort of shamefacedly agree about Stamets/Culber -- that I am not deeply emotionally invested in their story, though I think it was a bad choice to kill the guy and leave him dead for so long. I'm much much more invested in all the female characters. But I also think that this is something that may change, because honestly? For most of the season I didn't have very many feelings about Philippa Georgiou. She'd gotten two episodes and we knew Michael cared, but I didn't feel like I knew her. I was pissed on principle, but I didn't know her. Now? OH. FEELS. So if they actually ARE doing something with Culber and Stamets like they did with Georgiou (hopefully not an evil double! but like an actual plot?) and it develops them more, I think I might end up getting invested. (Because so far whenever this show has put effort into getting me invested, I turn out to be RIGHT THERE for it.)
Also agree with list of things that need no damn explanation at all. :D And the jerk ranking! Don't be mean to Saru! AND GIVE KAT A NAP.
