Star Trek meme: Day 10 - Most Shocking Moment

The obvious one: Picard's assimilation.

But I barely had time to register it before it was reversed -- I saw "The Best of Both Worlds" on VHS, with both episodes on one tape. So I missed The Great Cliffhanger and The Summer of Speculation.

The rest are from Discovery, and are spoilery.

• Georgiou's death at the end of "Battle of the Binary Stars". Another obvious one.
• And then Lorca's death, and the fact that it was mirror!Georgiou who got to survive and have a redemption arc.
• I mean, it's an extremely reluctant redemption arc that so far mostly involves "not eating people" and "hardly committing any war crimes at all", but it's still a gift. I think her scenes with Gabrielle Burnham demonstrate that Georgiou is ... maybe not interested in becoming a "good person", but wants to use her skills constructively. For Michael, at least.
• That's the most positive shock! The most negative...
• Is, obviously, killing Kat. I didn't see it coming, mostly because it served no narrative purpose and didn't even resolve a character arc for her -- because she barely had an arc in season 2.
• ANYWAY, I'M STILL MAD.
• The only thing that makes me less mad is that there are oodles of ways she could be saved, with or without some kind of interesting permanent damage, and the showrunners and writers have been pretty clearly told that this was an unpopular move -- for its stupidity, if nothing else. So maybe they'll think twice before gratuitously killing off major supporting characters.
