The post-Voyager timeline

Following the reveals in the mid-season finale of Star Trek: Prodigy last week, I realised I needed to sit down and work out what the timeline is and where all the Voyager characters are, along with a handful of other key events. So! Spoilers ahead!



2366 - [Late season 3 TNG, between "Sarek" and "Menage a Troi"]

• the Diviner is in the delta quadrant, searching for the NX Protostar on Tars Lamora
• he clones himself to create his progeny, Gwyn.

2371 - Voyager is stranded in the delta quadrant. Shenanigans ensue.

2378 - Voyager returns to the delta quadrant.

• Janeway is promoted to Vice Admiral
• at some point Starfleet starts building a real USS Dauntless based on the schematics of the fake Federation ship used to trap the Voyager crew in "Hope and Fear", I assume because these people are all massive nerds

2379 - events of Star Trek: Nemesis

2381 - [season 2 of Lower Decks]

• Tom Paris visits the USS Cerritos

SOME TIME IN BETWEEN 2381 AND 2383 so maybe 2382, who knows?

• the evacuation of Romulus begins, the Romulan Empire collapses and the Romulan Neutral Zone ceases to exist, this probably happens over a few years, but this is the starting point
• Seven of Nine might join the Fenris Rangers -- at least, this is the earliest possible point it seems possible
• Captain Chakotay is given command of the NX-Protostar, an experimental ship with a faster-than-warp drive, a crew made up primarily of cadets, and an Emergency Training Hologram based on Kathryn Janeway, which definitely won't be awkward at all
• the Protostar encounters a temporal anomaly and is boarded by Drednok; Chakotay wipes holo Janeway's memory and logs
• somehow, the Protostar winds up somewhere in the past, concealed on Tars Lamora
• Chakotay's whereabouts and those of his crew are unknown; he's certainly somewhere in the delta quadrant, but when and where are a mystery

2383 [season 1 of Prodigy]

• Admiral Janeway commands the Dauntless, leading the search for the Protostar
• the kids find the Protostar and use it to escape the Diviner
• their use of the protostar drive attracts Starfleet's attention
• Janeway sets course for the delta quadrant to retrieve Chakotay and also the Protostar

2385

• the synths attack Mars
• the Federation abandons the Romulans
• [this is another likely point for Seven to join the Fenris Rangers]

2386

• Icheb is killed

2387

• Spock yeets himself into the Kelvinverse

2399 [season one of Picard]

• Seven of Nine joins the La Sirena

Some time in the 3100s

• The Doctor's back-up program is activated in an alien museum in the delta quadrant [Voyager, "Living Witness"]

3390 [season 4 of Discovery]

• the Voyager-J is fitted with an experimental alternative to warp drive
• the USS Janeway investigates a gravitational anomaly
• no, these events absolutely count

Anywhere between the late 3100s or the 37th century

• the Doctor's back-up sets course for the Federation

That's everything! In short...

Characters whose post-Voyager whereabouts and activities we roughly know

• Seven of Nine
• Janeway
• Chakotay, even if he is technically MIA somewhere in the delta quadrant (again)
• Tom Paris
• the Doctor, but only a far future back-up copy

Characters I very badly need updates on

• Tuvok
• B'Elanna
• Harry Kim, whom I like to think has had a bunch of promotions by now, but who knows? can we all decide that he's the first officer of the Protostar and is really really mad about being stuck in the delta quadrant again?

Characters who were also in the show

• Neelix
• the Doctor

I can't believe we've wound up with multiple Doctors running around. Two is two too many. On the other hand, his survival into the next millennium means I can hold out hope for holo Janeway, and my OTP of holo Janeway/Zora.

You're welcome! I forgot to add "some time in the 25th century: the Federation makes first contact with Solum; it goes badly; the Diviner does not take it well". But, you know.

(Hmmm. The Diviner and Janeway both have a record of using radical time travel shenanigans to undo events they don't care for. I like it.)

OH YEAH, he is violently murdered in a flashback in Picard. There's some eyeball business. It's not great.

(Given what an asshole the actor turned out to be, "recast him and then KILL HIM DRAMATICALLY" feels like a pretty great solution, but, uhhhh, it could have been shot differently.)

I've just been assuming that Chakotay and all of the original crew are dead, do we have any evidence that they aren't?

Also what are the odds that S3 of Lower Decks is going to reference any of this, since they specifically went out of their way to plant false time markers in Samanthan's implant?

Also, I'm still loling at the fact that Tom hasn't been promoted.

My entirely subjective judgment is that the Rangers wouldn't have formed until things got bad so I'd go with the later date but who knows, no evidence thus far either way.

Only that it seems unlikely to me that they'd kill off a legacy character in a kids show, especially when lots of young fans are going straight from Prodigy to Voyager.

I could be wrong, but kids media is always judicious about killing characters.
