I keep waiting for the violent feminist backlash, but my favourite feminist blog is currently dealing with the thing where a fourteen-year-old girl takes a lie detector test on radio (at her mother's insistence), reveals that she was raped, and is subjected to further questioning about her sexual experience. (Link contains a transcript which may be triggery.)
(Hoyden About Town doesn't want to see people blaming the mother, but -- your daughter starts acting out. She tells you that she was raped when she was twelve. If your next move is to force her to undergo a public lie detector test about her sexual experiences, you have some serious issues of your own.)
2. If those links didn't disgust you beyond belief, try this: plantar warts - I HAS THEM. Taking over my left big toe and plotting some kind of world takeover bid. I am trying apple cider vinegar.
3. This wine is my new best friend. Sorry, other friends, you all have many redeeming qualities, but you're not as delicious as the Tyrrell's Old Winery Shiraz.
4. The problem with Babylon 5 fandom is that all the interesting Minbari fic seems to be written by Delenn/Lennier shippers. And aside from the fact that I don't ship it, there's an underlying assumption that Delenn is obligated to return Lennier's romantic love, because ... well, because. Which pushes Lennier further towards Nice Guyness, when the show itself does a good job of skirting around that.
(There was also one fic where Sheridan is like, "You can totally bone Delenn after I'm dead." Which, no. A THIRD PARTY'S SEXUALITY IS NOT FOR YOU TO NEGOTIATE.)
5. On the other hand, Delenn/Dukhat is totally canon. Right? RIGHT? I, um, may have watched some scenes in "Atonement", like, six times. Delenn is absolutely my fanon Time War Romana brought to life, right down to the bit where she sort of accidentally started a genocidal war. And then that's revisited in "Lines of Communication", because JMS loves me and wants me to be happy. In this instance, anyway. I still can't get my head around the bit where he thinks it's a good idea not to have Sheridan find out about Delenn's role in the war, except that he doesn't want his OTP to be complicated by needless things like tension and drama.
6. I woke up yesterday and today with Harvey sleeping on my head. Proof, if I needed it, that I am home, and all is right with the world.
7. On the other hand, I haven't yet received my group certificate from my ex-employers. This displeases me, because it's tax time, and I am due for a hefty refund, and why are they taunting me like this? I called head office yesterday, and left a voicemail with payroll, but no one's gotten back to me yet. And dammit, if Borders can give me my group certificate on July 2, then Angus & Robertson -- who have the same payroll department and the same accountants -- should be equally on the ball.
At the back of my mind is the nagging awareness that the House o'Squid -- along with our entire apartment block -- has a problem with mail going missing, so maybe the certificate was sent ages ago and lost? If this is the case, I am hoping there'll be no problems with sending a new one.
