More top 5s
Aug. 12th, 2009 09:48 amakashasheiress asks for my top 5 Doctor/Romana moments.
1. "Where are we going?"
"Literally or philosophically?"
"Oh, philosophically."
"We're going to lunch!"
2. An un-filmed scene in "Shada" where Romana comes up with an improbable but brilliant plan and the Doctor gives her a medal, kisses her cheeks and salutes her. Or maybe it was filmed? I don't know. I first read it in the script, and wibbled, then I read it again and wibbled some more.
3. "The Armaggedon Factor" is quite dire, but also full of shippy moments: Romana being willing to sacrifice herself because she's "not important" and the Doctor being outraged at this frank misrepresentation of her significance in the universe. The bit where the Shadow is freaking him out with multiple Romanas. And the ending, where they're back to bickering, but with a gentle, affectionate edge.
4. The whole "you can't fight the Time Lords" scene in "Full Circle". It's the decay of their domesticity, and incredibly painful to watch, but also sort of wonderful.
5. "State of Decay". Everyone and her mobile computer unit has mentioned the "You're wonderful" bit, so I'll skip that and go for this: when the vampires offer them drinks, the Doctor and Romana salute each other, then swap glasses, then carry on as normal. Why? Because they can. It's quite desperately cute.calapine requested my top 5 Romana outfits.
1.

"The Armageddon Factor" dress. Possibly not by coincidence, this also features Romana I's best hair.
2.

"Horns of NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMON!" AKA the outfit that launched a thousand kinkmeme prompts. Well, one. I love it because (a) it represents Romana's total disregard for gender divisions and (b) it's so appropriate to the script. Romana is more active than the Doctor in this story, hence the authority in the Establishment dress of hunting pinks. And it's a story about a giant bull, and she's wearing bright red. *love*
3.

The vampire sacrifice dress from "State of Decay". Shut up, I just think it's pretty.
4.

Okay, so maybe it looks like she modelled her second "Stones of Blood" outfit on Frida from ABBA, but it's attractive, comfortable, offers room for movement and the boots are great.
5.

I was a bit torn here, because I also love the "Full Circle" outfit. And this is a bit colourless for my taste, as if Romana had glimpsed the future, seen it was beige, and decided to get in on the ground floor. On the other hand, I love the cut of her coat and breeches, and her stripey socks and little ankle boots. How can you say no to that combination?

1. Barbara telling off the Doctor in "Edge of Destruction". When I first saw this, much of fandom had bought into the marketing spiel that none of the OldSchool companions had stood up to the Doctor -- let alone that he had listened and changed in response. So it was a bit of a shock when I saw the very first companion doing it, and the Doctor listening and learning. It's quite amazing, watching this young, scared schoolteacher lose her temper with an old, capricious alien she has litle reason to trust.
2. "The Lazarus Experiment", Francine slaps the Doctor.
3. Barbara wipes out some Daleks with a lorry in "The Dalek Invasion of Earth".
4. "Aliens of London", Jackie slaps the Doctor.
5. Barbara pwns the Daleks with history, "Dalek Invasion" again.
(6. "The Runaway Bride", Donna slaps the Doctor.)

1. Four, Romana and Duggan. I like to believe they took the long way back from prehistoric Earth.
2. The Doctor and Amelia Rumsford. Not necessarily Four (with Romana) -- knowing how well Ten gets along with older women, I like to think he went back to see her again, and took her on a quick trip around the universe.
3. On a related note: the Tenth Doctor and Doctor Todd from "Kinda".
4. The Seventh Doctor and Lady Christina. I just think they'd have interesting sparkage. Bonus points if it's Seven, Ace and Christina.
5. Ten and Gwen Cooper. They both wear cons! He has lots of teeth! She has a gap in hers! And it would enable me to admire Eve Myles without having to watch Torchwood, which is always a bonus.
