So, yes, I finished a fair bit of fic recently.  This isn't the full swag, but these are the ones I'm least likely to cringe over in the future.

(...you know there's nothing worse than reading back over old fics you thought were incredibly clever and brilliant, and realising that you're just an overrated fandom hack with an inflated ego?  That's how I feel, 90% of the time.)

Meanwhile, is there any use to which Beatles lyrics cannot be put?  And don't give me that look; a couple of years back, it would have been Tori songs.  However, I've had "Happiness is a Warm Gun" in my head for weeks, and now I can share the pain with everyone else.

You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Frog Prince
Summary: Snape and Lily have a reluctant conversation in their sixth year potions class.
Rated: PG-13
Warnings: Gratuitous tentacles.
Fandom: Harry Potter
Spoilers: Half-Blood Prince
Notes: I started this, oh, a day after I finished HBP. Took me a while to find an ending.  It is entirely unambitious and uneventful, but I like it.

She’s not a girl who misses much.

Comfort and Joy
Summary: In which Russell greets her aunt's Christmas celebrations with something less than enthusiasm.
Rated: PG-13
Warnings: Minor canon-stretching. Also: Lame.
Fandom: Mary Russell
Spoilers: BEEK, allusions to MREG.
Notes: This is what happens when you leave yourself open to blackmail; that is, you expose [livejournal.com profile] cesario to a truly awful, brain-destroying icon, and she demands fic as compensation. What kind of fic? Oh, hurt/comfort Christmas schmoop will do nicely.  *stares*

(So, yes, Christmas fic.  I was going to let it sit until December, but I spent Monday and Tuesday putting mince pies and tree-shaped shortbreads on the shelves at work, and now I'm so damn full of festive spirit that I might explode.)

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes, and she’s gone.

What River Knows
Summary: River knows a great many things. Here is a random sampling of twenty-one.
Rated: PG-13
Warnings: Mathematical and sexual references.
Fandom: Firefly
Spoilers: Whole series, plus Serenity, plus speculation. That is to say: Big. Damn. Spoilers.
Notes: Inspired by the 20 Random Facts meme on LiveJournal, although with structural liberties taken.

Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game

The Art of Self-Preservation
Summary: The games people play to pretend to be normal. House and Cameron are two sides of a coin.
Rated: PG-13
Warnings: Um … Cameron.
Fandom: House MD
Spoilers: Allusions to "Love Hurts", "Three Stories", "Acceptance".
Notes: Real, actual, honest-to-God House fic. *eyedart* Um, also written before I saw "Humpty Dumpty", so the vague thematic similarities are entirely coincidental.

...feedback is delicious and very welcome.  *curtsies*

I feel like that ALL the time. And it's true in my case. *headdesk* In SS/HG I comfort my self that notwithstanding I'm still 900 times better than most of my current competitors. Which is saying nothing whatsoever.

I must be more about Firefly than HP or Russell these days. First two stories were excellent and fit nicely into canon. Third one I loved. (I have to say especially #12, because I am sentimental that way, but really all of it.)

(Didn't read the fourth one, because no knowledge of House as yet.)

Oh, and you're not crazy. Just a bit touched. :)

The Art of Self-Preservation

Oh - hello? Awesome! Damn woman, you "House" better than anyone. How cool was this story? Even if it did have Cameron in it (I'm blocking that part - nothappeningnothappeningnothappening...).

I like:

"I don't care if he's house-trained, vaccinated and trained to walk on his hind legs. You can't keep him."

and

That Greg House. He's just so gosh-darn nice.

and

He makes his own fun.

Because that ending's *loaded* - Yeah baby.

And I like that Chase says "arseholes" - heh. Thank you.

Wow. Writing in a fandom I read... how weird... (I will also read the Firefly when I've seen the movie... I am the only person on LJ who hasn't seen this movie yet, right?)

What River Knows? Fucking awesome. Mal, fucked up though it may appear, is about the only person I could see being right for River.

(now write Zoe/Wash babyfic.)

SO MUCH FIC LOVE. WILL EXPLODE.

Seriously, you have Russell's narrative voice absolutely nailed, you write House like he's really House, which is a rare and beautiful thing, and the Snape/Lily is dead brilliant. If I knew more about Firefly I would be better able to judge the quality of that fic, but it looks awfully good to me.

*laughing at Frog Prince* Excellent interaction there. I'll have to come back for the Firefly fic after I finallly make it to the theater for Serenity. I've been trying for the last week and life just doesn't like to cooperate.

Just for the record.

I only had time to read one, and it was the Firefly one, as my brain's irrevocably stuck in it since I'm doing a research paper on it for English. (And if it weren't for the fic I'm writing and really want to get off the ground/finish, I'd be seriously falling out of the HP fandom.)

It was fucking fantastic. The tone, the little addendums, it was just so... River. The way she interspersed the random little nothings in with the important stuff. And River/Mal! EEEEEE. Special Hell! And now I want to know about Blue Sun even more and more and more ahhhhhhhh. (This has been a coherent review by Sara.)

I lied. I had to click the House link. I just did. "or an abject lesson shrouded in callous sarcasm" should be object lesson. Just for the record. But it's amazing to watch your language shift from perfect River to perfect House. And the analasys, yeah. It's kind of perfect. 'Cause I've done that, see. Talked about the ways that different suicide tactics would fail. To me, it was purely academic, to them... well, they dragged me to the hospital (only to be looked at funny by a crisis worker since there was actually nothing wrong with me and told to go home, so don't worry, nothing happened). So I really liked this fic.

And now I really, *really* have to go. Meep, you ate up more time than I had to spare. Damn you for being a good writer.

"What River Know" is awesome. Loved it. I especially love matter-of-factness of it. So you know, I've read it about four times already and I keep finding new things. Yay!

All of them, quite delicious. Have to add my particular squee over "What River Knows" -- fecking fantastic.

Heh -- "Oh, that Greg House. He's just so gosh-darn nice." Heeeheheheee.

Really amazing. *envies and fangirls your mad skillz*

Fantabulous. 2, 3 and 4 were all brilliant. You have an uncanny ability to channel the voices of the characters come through just as if they were on the screen or printed page. I'm so glad that House has such an able representative in Fandom.

More, please! ;-)

Yay for Russellfic! and schmoop, pfft. Their relationship is made of moments like that, where the depth of Holmes' concern and regard for her--while remaining utterly himself--takes her breath away. Let's face it, when she first arrived on the scene, Russell needed a lot of this kind of stuff; she'd been ill-used and it took nearly ten years for her to find any sort of healing. Perhaps getting shot and kidnapped and beaten up hastened the healing, oddly enough--for it was during (and after) those times that Holmes was there to help her pick up the pieces, to be her stability. Not her knight in shining armor, per se, but the one thing she could count on. It's a marvel that she was halfway sane during the stint in Palestine when he was gone...

And unfortunately I know nothing about Firefly or House, MD, and my HP is limited. :P But I'm sure they're all lovely (as usual)! ^_^

I'm no fan of Serenity and won't make any effort to see Firefly, but that was an amazing fic.

The Snape Lily fic was priceless.

Are you channelling Laurie King in your off hours?

Liz-fic. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

All good, but I especially love "What River Knows". It has everything to do with the fact that I am currently trying to write River for the first time, and that you nailed her voice and thoughts, and that you gave us such tantalizing glimpses post-movie.

The names Zoe is considering for her child.

(Zoe hasn't told Mal yet. River is holding her tongue.)

(Simon knows.)

(Kaylee suspects.)

I <3 you just for that.

So glad to see that I'm not the only one who suddenly sees the special wrongness/rightness of Mal/River after that movie. Lovely vignette (haven't read the others yet, but will after dinner).

Here via [livejournal.com profile] vonnie_k -- just wanted to say I loved the River ficlet, which was beautifully done and also v believable (some people tend to make her too knowledgeable about _everything,_ but this was right on target).

Thanks! I'm especially pleased you liked the Firefly fic, because I felt like it was such a cheat, being essentially a list-fic. And one's first offering in a fandom is always nerve-wracking.

I apologise for the presence of Cameron. I wanted to see if I could actually write her without my burning hatred bleeding through the screen and making itself obvious.

I'm very pleased you like it. 'Cos ... this is you, and as you say, it's been a while since we were in the same fandom. And someone noticed Chase's Australianism! *dances*
