Fannish misogyny bingo.  Doesn't have nearly enough squares.

Re-used costumes in Tudor and Elizabethan movies.

Cat eats with fork and chopsticks.  Its owner rates it at seven out of ten for table manners, but I'd give it a four.

Sarah Palin is a world of *facepalm*.  "She asked the library how she could go about banning books" ...because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Speaking of Sam Neill (well, I would have eventually), I was at work this morning, and the conversation turned, as such things often do, to Sam Neill.  No, I don't know how that happened.  Anyway, we were discussing Sam Neill, and my co-worker said, "Oh yeah, he came into this store a couple of years back"

"OMGREALLYSAMNEILLILOVEHIMTELLMEEVERYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I said with disinterest.

"Yeah.  I don't remember what he bought."

Then I went out, and vacuumed the hallowed carpet on which he did tread, although not literally since the store has been refurbished and recarpeted since then.  The vacuuming was real, though.

I actually don't know what dismays me more, that season 3 of The Tudors won't air until 2009, or that it will feature Joss Stone as Anne of Cleves.

Hang on... wasn't Anne of Cleves supposed to be, well, ugly? Good-natured and kind-hearted and all of that, but still ugly. And Joss is lovely.

Depends on who you talk to in history. She apparently wasn't that bad - but she didn't flirt the way Henry liked and - historical trufax - her tits weren't perky. He complains of this in his annulment papers. (He also wrote to Anne about how much he wanted to get his lips on her rack once. Henry was a tit man.)

...This right here is why I can't watch the Tudors. I loathe Henry. I think he's a boil on the butt of sexist, entitled villain.

I find him bad enough as a person who's long dead.

Well, if it helps, at least Anne of Cleves was the wife that so revolted Henry the VIII, that he nearly beheaded her just for being butt-ugly ;) IIRC, he ended up beheading Cromwell (or someone) instead, for arranging the marriage and presenting an overly flattering portrait of poor Anne.

Love The Tudors!

The problem with the fork video is that the woman in it is so uncomfortably a bit mentally ill.

I did wonder, but she obviously consented to the interview, and I'm more interested in the cat.

I figure a cat'll put up with anything if there's food at the end of it.

Re your "world of facepalm" link, her church apparently preaches that Middle Eastern terrorism is a manifestation of God's wrath against Jews who won't convert to Christianity. I'm sure it'll be covered as obsessively as were random Jeremiah Wright quotes taken completely out of context, the American media being so "leftist" and all.

Banned Books week coming up... I hope the ALA lay the smack down.

I wonder if I can teach my cat that? Then again he still runs into brick walls so I'm not hopeful.

i think the bingo card definitely needs a "this is why i hate feminists" square. i feel like that is one "argument" that is brought up in pretty much... every discussion of feminism ever.

sarah palin is not there to appeal to real feminists. she is there to appeal to people who don't want to say, "i don't believe women should have certain rights", because if you say that out loud everyone can tell it sounds bad. she's there so people can mark off the bingo card with "but SHE'S a woman, and it doesn't bother her, so it's not bad".

Then I went out, and vacuumed the hallowed carpet on which he did tread, although not literally since the store has been refurbished and recarpeted since then. The vacuuming was real, though.

For once, I can vouch for my countrymen: we see right through Sarah Palin. Go around the streets of any American town and ask people what Palin accomplished. The usual response is 'costing John McCain the election.'

That woman (HER LAST NAME MAKES ME SAD) is why the "at least McCain's not as bad as Bush" line has lost it's steam. Because...well, his second certainly is. That's a very real worry.

I just read that she cut funding for an organisation that provides support and assistance to pregnant teenage girls. She fails at being pro-life.

This (http://www.newyorker.com/talk/2008/09/08/080908ta_talk_gourevitch) paints Palin in a slightly more favorable light, but that's because she's thumbing her nose at Republicans and endorsing Obama.

Well, a scary VP nom for a scary pres nom.

that cat video was horrifying and funny at the same time but the YT comments had me falling out of my chair.

actually I feel kind of awful for that cat. it has to perform tricks every time it eats?
