Moar thoughts on "Watchmen"

Now that I'm not about to rush off to work.
- I was joking about the squid thing. If you were wondering. I thought the Manhattan ploy was a bit more coherent, and certainly easier to realise on film. Also, history has shown that merely attacking New York isn't going to bring about world peace.
- I love Laurie, and I ship Dan/Laurie LIEK WHOA. So I loved every moment they were on the screen, separately or together, but upon reflection, I feel like I was cheated a bit. Laurie is such a brittle, complex character -- like a darker version of Barbara Gordon,
piecesofalice and I were agreeing earlier -- that I missed the things like her smoking, and thinking that Hooded Justice was her real father.
- On the other hand, I loved Laurie's movie!costume. It was incredibly sexy, yet more practical than the comics!costume, which mostly seemed to involve gauze and chiffon. It's a shame, though; I had been hoping that theCrimebusters Watchmen flashback would see her in the comics costume. Just because I like that sort of thing. Seriously, when I was a kid, I used to obsessively draw Supergirl and Saturn Girl in the variations of their costumes. I KNOW, I'M LAME.
- Okay, when I say "practical", I am discounting the "how the hell do you fight supervillains in high heels?" factor. I'm immune to it these days. cleolinda has some more thoughts on the costume.
- You know what was awesome? RANDOM NENA!
- I know he's getting a lot of criticism, but I really liked Matthew Goode's Ozymandias. My favourite bit of the opening montage -- which I loved -- was him in front of Studio 54, posing while the Village People, Bowie and Jagger look on. The general consensus seems to be that movie!Ozymandias is a bit gay; apparently he has a homosexual jaw. Anyway, I liked him a lot. I was distracted by his accent; I think it worked better in theory than practice.
- On that note: I ship Ozymandias/Manhattan.
- As opposed to Veidt/Jon.
- I loved the scene where they're investigating Veidt's office, and Dan's approach to hacking Adrian's computer is to stick a floppy disk in the drive and guess the password. Classic.
- Related: I thought the alternate 1985 was really well-realised. You know it's an alternate universe, because the sky is full of zeppelins.
- Ummmm, did I have other thoughts? OH YEAH, the thought that FF.net is even now filling up with bad Comedian/Mary Sue fic is disheartening.
