The Pigeon wants a puppy!

I just read the new Mo Willems Pigeon book, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sajee (happy birthday!) and [livejournal.com profile] peace_bloom, who didn't mind that I was going through their room in search of a picture book. The Pigeon Wants a Puppy: a heartwarming tale of desire, acquisition and disappointment. Sometimes I wonder if it's possible to over-identify with the Pigeon, but then I decide to stop worrying and have a hot dog.

Also I made the others watch the DW trailer, and we are all awesomed out, and speculating on whether or not [spoiler] is evil. I say not, but the others are more open to alternative interpretations.

And now, to read some Tintin.

I say definitely not evil. With everything else happening they'd never be able to wrap it all up properly.

I agree, if nothing else -- and I think I've said this before, either to you or [livejournal.com profile] calapine -- but if they made Rose evil, it would make the flailing about Evil Flapper Romana look like a storm in a teacup. And RTD just isn't going to do that to his Everygirl.

No way. Especially when they're (IMO) clearly setting her up in the freedom fighter sort of mode, judging from what we've seen thus far.

SHE HAS A BIG FUCKING GUN AND THERE ARE EXPLOSIONS AND IT IS AWESOMECAKES.

I'm inordinately amused by the people who are all worried that because the Doctor's gotten pointy-headed about people carrying around guns and using violence that he's going to be furious at Rose for carrying around a gun and presumably using violence. HA HA DO THEY NOT KNOW HOW NU WHO WORKS YET OR WHAT?

She'll hopefully get the same reaction that Leela and Ace got, which is to say, "Oh noes, not violence, that is teh bad!!! Got a molotov cocktail on you?"

It made me sad when he was all cranky at Jenny's karate chop. IS HE HATING ON HIS VENUSIAN AIKIDO???

Post-traumatic Stress syndrome, perhaps?

That's my theory, but they've laid it on so thick this year that it's started to really bug me.

"Rose, hand me some of those Dalek-killing laser squibs you're not carrying. Oh, and some of that cheese popcorn, universe-transcending doesn't make you half peckish."

He's jealous because she leapt from Zeus's forehead better at it?

He's going to be really miffed when he finds out about all those hours Leela spent teaching Romana how to kill a man with a blunt steak knife.

Yeah, the chop!rage was "Awww. Come on, she didn't kill the guy. He'll be up in a few minutes, it's fine."

LOL YES. While it'd be nice on a continued theme/treating her like, you know, a person level, I'm not expecting it to come up.

Maybe there's an evil [spoiler] and a good [spoiler]...

I'm just glad to see Dave back!

As much as I enjoy my personal "Rose=Davros" crack theory...yeah, not happening.

You're not the only one thinking that. *raises hand*

OMG YAY! How'd you arrive at your conclusion?

Mostly me thinking that there wasn't enough angst last season. This then led me to think that if Rose was the Big Bad and evil and stuff, the Doctor would therefore have to kill her. And then the Specials would be nothing but him crying in the console room.

It just made sense that she'd be Davros because that's OBVIOUSLY him/her in that one shot. I'm also enjoying picturing Rose in half a Dalek wheeling about.

Your crack theory conclusion?

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with overidentifying with Pigeon. I think it's very sensible myself.

And as for the Rose theory, I suspect that's a little more interesting than anything Team Cardiff will come up with.

The thing about the Pigeon is that he loves and wants things without necessarily knowing what they are, and I do that, too. Along with being ridiculously enthusiastic about things in general.

Re: the Rose theory, I find the Rose-as-Freedom-Fighter idea exciting enough as it is.

That is me too. Especially the ridiculously enthusiastic part.

In retrospect, I used the wrong word. Unpredictable, maybe. The idea of Rose as freedom fighter - well, they've given her Mickey's role from the end of series 2, which is hardly unexpected given that they're probably still cleaning up after the Cybermen. Which is not to say that I think they need a twist. As long as Rose is being kickarse and wonderful and not pining over the Doctor, I'll be happy.

I was thinking how Mickey-esque she seemed. That's always a good thing.

I'm definitely liking the way she comes off in the trailer. It seems like a natural development as well as an extremely welcome one. My only regret is that they apparently saw fit to not give anyone else their due exposure.

Maybe Rose is the smokescreen so everyone (who hasn't been reading spoilers) will be *really* surprised when everyone else comes back too? That's what I'm telling myself so I don't get annoyed by the "Rose >>>> everyone else" vibe of the trailer.

That's what I expect, actually. We all know that Rose is coming back, and from watching the show we can make guesses as to how and why -- but when Jack, Martha and Sarah Jane rock up, that's unexpected.

I mean, relatively.

That's what I'm expecting, too. It still makes me apprehensive what with their habit of using her as a tool of overshadowing.

It is. I'd much rather see that, than what she had degenerated into at the end of series two.

I am not entirely convinced that the rest of them are going to get more than one line of dialogue, but I look forward to being mistaken.
