I am so thrilled you liked them! Which ones did you listen to? He is so unbelievably evil now, it boggles the mind. But in my search to find ANYWHERE with some Benny discussion, I ended up at the OG forums. Shockingly enough, some people had brilliant thoughts (I know!). Specifically, I was totally taken aback by this analysis of Brax:

A slightly more sinister, callous version of the Doctor; a Mycroft to his Sherlock Holmes. Fighting monsters and putting things right, but with a much higher threshold for collateral damage. He is, then, all the things Benny hated about the Doctor - even that time she first met him on Heaven.

And there is more, but I don't want to spoil you if you don't want me to. It's about the timing of the series.

Oh, and Bernice is amazing. I love her so much it's stupid.

i was quite resistant to that theory even when it jumped crackily into my head, because i didn't think brax was as much of a BASTARD as mycroft. but benny audios may make me revise my opinion. ;_____;

at least he seems to go from more bastardly to less bastardly, as opposed to some dudes with evil machinations. or at least his bastardliness with have something to do with morality (cracked out as it may be) as opposed to mycroft's motivations, which probably revolve quite a bit around maintaining the empire, and what he's going to eat for dinner that night (not necessarily in that order).

Anyway, I'm really impressed with what I've heard of the series. The writing is so much better than Gallifrey, or the DW audios I've heard (of course, since I only listened to the DW audios with Romana, that's not many). I have a lot of love for Benny, and her relationship with Brax -- which makes it a bit of a shame that I'm neutral-to-hostile to Jason and Adrian, both of whom I wish would STFU and GTFO. Well, Adrian might be allowed to stay, but Jason seems to be a Nice Guy, and that's never going to win my heart.

And, feel free to spoil me. I have trouble following audios (*is not a good listener*) without reading a plot summary beforehand, so I'm fairly well-spoiled all ready.

They really are EXCELLENTLY written. A lot of the reviewers on various sites I've seen appear to be of the opinion that the BF Bernice line is superior to the Who line, quality wise. They are tight stories and the characters are consistent and believable and interesting. I'm so pleased you like it.

At one point she even accuses him of being jealous of the Doctor because of her travels with him. He denies it, but you can tell it's true. ;-)

I approve of this. The timeline, so far as I've been able to work out so far, is that Braxiatel hooks up with Benny after he's been exiled from Gallifrey. I'm sure he was doing more than just casting about for a Romana-substitute, but that's what he got.

I do like that idea, but surely Gallifrey still exists during the Benny audios? So he's messing about ensuring the preservation of Gallifrey, or parts thereof, thus setting up the final episode of Gallifrey. I don't know if you've heard it yet, so I shall refrain from further comment...

It's hard to say. They never mention the Doctor by name (licensing reasons) and we never meet other time lords or hear Brax refer to Gallifrey. Because his own personal time line is so fucked up, this Brax could be from any point really. Personally, I think he saw that the Time War was inevitable and put himself in stasis so he would survive it. Now he's back to manipulating events so that he can undo the damage. But we can't know for sure yet. He says a lot of cryptic shit about needing Benny by his side, without distractions, doing what needs to be done. It's all very creepy and awesome.
