(Actually, this goes well beyond tertiary -- we're looking at, maybe, eighteen degrees of separation between this character and relevance to the overall fictional universe -- but I don't know if there's a word to describe that.)

Anyway.  I'm reading Life During Wartime, the Bernice Summerfield anthology that covers the Fifth Axis occupation of the Braxiatel Collection.  SHUT UP, it has Brax being tortured inconvenienced.  The important thing is that one story namechecks Menlove Stokes, artist, con man and connoisseur of female Time Lord beauty.  He originally appeared in two of Gareth Roberts's Four/Romana (YES, THAT IS AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION) Virgin novels.  Yes, I had squee.  Because I'm lame.

I've realised that I'm well on the way to becoming to Romana/Braxiatel what [livejournal.com profile] livii is to Ace/Hex.  I cannot bring myself to see this as a bad thing.

Right.  I'm going to finish washing the dishes now.  Honest.

Sadly, not every Big Finish actor has done dodgy photoshoots.

Wait, did I say "sadly"? I think I meant "thankfully".

I think you should write that, yes.

Where is the Romana/Brax community, then?!

I'm waiting until there are more than four shippers. Plus, I hate creating comms for small ships; they always end up lying silent most of the time.

Yes, I haven't noticed that at all *looks mournfully at [livejournal.com profile] happyfists* I need to get a computer with at least 500MB of RAM so I can make Duggan vids. Where is my tax return, dammit!

Now we just need a Romana/Brax/Ace/Hex fic...

That could only end in pain, probably for Ace and Hex. And not the good sort of pain. More like, the "okay, now I'm handing you over to the Daleks for the sake of my Collection the universe, while I use my l33t mind control to ensure that Romana convinces the Doctor you just went to, um, a farm."

See, that would be all sorts of awesome. I keep hoping for someone to write a fic where Seven takes Ace and Hex to Gallifrey, but during the Time War. I know that can't have a happy ending, and I'm strangely okay with it. I just don't want to have to write it myself, damnit.

Ace/Hex is a good thing, therefore Romana/Braxiatel must be one too.

*nods firmly*

And now I have to find said thing, because I like Ace/Hex.

It's quite a nice hell, really. There's no one around to harsh my squee, and there's not even a single Bernice/Brax shipper to fight with.

On the other hand, there's no fic on the Teaspoon that I didn't write, either. Boo.

It really is, isn't it? I mean, for me, there are the Ace/Seven shippers and the Ace/girls shippers, but the thing is, I ship those too, just not in the same time period. So there's no fighting, and it's got that ring of canon, and it's very peacefully awesome.

The reason it's hell is exactly your second sentence, though. I have a handful to read, but...

I keep trying to pimp Romana/Brax to people, but somehow, "He used a position of trust to manipulate her, and now her evil shadow-self lives in his head and makes him kill people!" doesn't really appeal to most people.

It appeals to me! I just am too lazy to listen to everything I would need to ship it properly; I haven't even got to the third season of the Gallifrey audios, for shame. I have to read more Fitz'n'Anji books and pimp Ace/Hex at people, heh. Which is thankfully an easier slog: "They're both human, they're reasonably close in age and attractive, he's madly in love with her, and she sends out mixed signals while mentoring him" is...really not difficult. Leaving aside the likely bisexuality, tragic pasts, and the travelling-with-Seven factors, that is.

You are so fucking hardcore. I can't BELIEVE you spent that kind of money. You know how obsessed I am with Benny and even I couldn't justify the cost of that hardcover. But now I'm painfully jealous. Is it worth the money? Do I have to just suck it up and buy the damn thing?

*eyedart*

To be honest, importing stuff from the UK is so expensive that I got it from a local seller on eBay for AU$25.

But yes, it's quite good so far -- the early stories are prone to telling, not showing, but then it settles down. There's one story where Brax has a total meltdown, which is hot interesting.

Hmmmmmm. I'm definitely going to have to figure out a way to get my hands on this. Sadly, it just won't be any time soon. But Brax having a meltdown? That's must-read right there.

It's just a very small meltdown, followed by a murder attempt. Apparently there's a time when his black hearts quail at the idea of being responsible for the deaths of millions.

(This only brings me back to my "Fifth Axis torture reawakens Pandora" theory.)
